Six and a half pounds, and you just know they're going to shoot. :)

Ted

They sure do look like a Savage...

And apparently only in long actions, too... :(

marlin bolt

I'am could be out on this one, but didn't marlin have a bolt rifle about 5 to 10 years ago, I think it was a mr7 back then. Going a shacky memory lapse. I think, actually ran down to the toy room and got a shooters bible for the year 2000 and it is in there. Looks about the same but can't tell on the style of safety from the picture

Keith, this is a totally diffrent rifle from the MR7......not even close to the same. The MR7 was literally part Ruger, Winchester, Browning and Remington.

It will be abundantly evident in the article you have there.

thanks Ted for the pics...it sure does look like a Savage right down to the trigger but the back of the bolt looks kinda weatherbyish and a remington 700safety ....probably will shoot though...i had a MR-7 years ago...shot great when it deceided it wanted to shoot at all:rolleyes:....Marlin kind of took the best of everyone else's guns and stirred it together and whla there you go...MR-7 was born...this looks nicer and i cant wait to get one in my hands to see how it feels:sniper:

I have not handled one in the flesh butthe Savage features appear to be limited to the barrel nut and, to a certain extent, the separate bolt head. I say, to a certain extent because the Marlin rifle appears to lack the gas baffle found on the Savage. I like separate bolt heads though. It is the only thing I like on the A-Bolt! I think they are a good way to produce a bolt which is straight and they offer the possibility of changing between cartridge groups in the same action.
The striker and trigger system look to be quite conventional while the Savage is unique.
The receiver is round (like a Savage) and appears to utilize a thicker recoil lug than the Savage.
The extraction cam seems to be machined into the receiver which is, once again, the conventional approach. Savage uses a separate piece to provide a cam for primary extraction.
The rifle looks like it may have potential and has some good features but I think we have to ask; Does the world need another cheap, plastic stocked, hunting rifle? I don't think so but Marlin must. Regards, Bill.

looks craptastic.

my rationale for buying a Savage/Stevens is that while they are cheap guns they have a reputation of accuracy and customer service going back several decades. you know when you buy a Savage/Stevens that youre getting an ugly, plastic-stocked gun but it will shoot. they also have a wide variety of aftermarket accessories available - plus the ability to change barrels yourself. even in Canada, if anything goes wrong you just call them up and parts are fed-exed to your door 2 days later.

i see no reason to take a chance on another cheap gun like this, nor do i see any real appeal in it or need for it.
i see just about as much appeal in this gun as i do in the Mossberg 4x4.

how do we know theyre going to shoot?
marlin guns havent exactly been confidence-inspiring of late. even loyal followers of the levers theyve been making for nearly a century are starting to ##### about QC issues.

Hi

IMHO

This rifle is a combination of so many features we all are familiar with. I'm guessing patents have run out of something like that??? It's not a marlin, its a Remington/Weatherby/Sportco/Savage...blaa blaaa

Ugly gun, cheap finish, poor casting, and a plastic stock to boot.

I agree with manbearpig, and to add, it's not appealing to buy one, and certainly not shoot one.
