Okee....I know a guy that claims to have 2 AK's. Considering I know he doesnt have a firearms license I know that he is likely full of crap to start with...

But I digress, he tells me that BOTH of these AK's are chambered in .223. I called B.S. on him, I have never heard of one chambered for that calibre...if he had at least said 5.56 nato I would have lent some credibility to his claim.

My understanding these were only made in 7.62 chambering? Enuf smart people here to help me with this one I am sure!!

(Oh yeah, said guy also claims to have a case of hand grenades he kept after leaving the Navy)

errr...

Actually, they were common imports. Moreover, they were non-restricted. Legality aside, he might just never have registered them prior to the ban.

The Norinco 84-S is a Chinese made .223 AK that has been imported into the U.S. in pre and post-ban versions. There are basically three versions of this rifle the Polytech 16 inch, the Norinco 16 inch and the Norinco 21 inch RPK style. All are available in pre and post ban forms. The 84-S uses special .223 mags and will even allow you to use AK-74 mags in the gun. However you can only load about 20 rounds in the AK-74 clips before they start to malfunction. All around the .223 AK is one of the best rifles we have seen, however they do tend to tear up the brass so don't plan on reloading. 84-S AKs also have a nasty tendency to do double taps due to a weak spring in the bolt. This can easily be fixed by replacing it with a higher quality spring.

He is one of those "I was special forces" I did this I did that....so yeah...oh and please dont go calling this guy a friend...he is an idiot, and every 2nd word out of his mouth is a lie...

He is a guy I know, who likes to talk really big and top any tale that can be told....and if I honestly thought he really had any weapons I would be the first to call him in...

Norinco 'AKxx" is not the AK. It may be adopted to NATO round but AK has never come out chambered for NATO round.
AK74 and alike are 5.45, NATO is 5.56.

An AK is an AK is an AK, regardless of what it's chambered in or who built it. Your argument makes no sense as the Norinco rifles were manufactured in .223 and 7.63x39.

The Russians even build them in .556x45mm.

I admit it, I'm out of touch; that's why I said AFAIK in the post above, ok?
I dunno if the round is popular in Russia thou; AK101 may be deployed somewhere close to the border, and then - IF. I recall they failed AK74 back in the day due to bad results shooting thru bush... and left border troops with AK47.
