I'll be putting this on a few sites, since it seems nobody has a thorough review of this rifle.

Finally, I got to feild test it today. I'll post pics when I get the developed. Let me say, this rifle is awesome. It was such a pleasure to use. First I'll say, conditions were hardly perfect. I was dealing with Chinook winds, blowing left to right averaging 30 to 40 KpH with gusts on top of that. My "Rest" consisted of my cowboy hat on the roof of the car. it was all that was available. After the initial sighting in at 50 yards, which took four shots, the following group was pretty good I'd say. 5 shots measure 2 cm apart at the furthest, edge to edge. Two shots are in the same hole. Two shots are overlapping figure eight style, and one opened it up. The group of four is a true sub half inch center to center. Overall maximum group, edge to edge is about 3/4 of an inch at 50 yards. This was using Winchester Dynapoints. The hunting performance of the rifle was outstanding. First, that bolt was awesome for fast followup shots. I was using my fore finger to open and thumb to close, in half the time of a conventional bolt. As for the stock design, I've read alot of folks don't like the porportions of the stock. I'll tell you this. We were also using a Savage MKII. The slim design of the Browning helped when firing offhand against the wind. The Savage blew all over the place. The Double Helix magazine is still up in the air. I never had one failure to feed, but after only a few hours out there, the plastic ahead of the feed rails was starting to look a little rough. I hope this won't be a problem, as I haven't found a replacment yet. The rifle itself was real nice to carry. The lite weight made huffing it around a breeze. All in all, i'm very pleased with the rifle, and am looking foward to getting it down to the range with a real rest and a variety of ammo. A few dozen gophers would attest to it's ability

Very intersting design. Slimmer, but taller. From the Browning web site:

The new Browning Double Helix rotary magazine system is easy to load, easy to carry and easy to use.

What are your thoughts on "easy to clean?"

Thanks for the review. I've been wanting one of these since I first held one locally, but the few that I've seen all had very bland unattractive wood. I just saw a nice looking one at the Sportsman's Show yesterday, wish I knew where it might be going afterwards.

And Browning is still charging a buck for their catalags!

Yes, I fondled the same rifle at the show yesterday. Nice little rifle, cool bolt, great stock. I thought it was a tad "whippy" but I think that with bases and rings it would settle right down. And that straightpull t-bolt has no issues with bolt-throw and large, low mounted scopes.

But that mag has the potential to be a winner or a horror-show and the design appears to preclude 3rd party hi-cap mags. Talked to the Browning guy about cleaning, and he said he didn't know....refrered me to the website for a manual. Such is show life.

Keep us in the loop Pharoh! Can you work the bolt with one thumb, almost like a crank-action? I eagerly await your 2,500 round follow up report!
