First Ahrends, now Herrett's :(

Got this from the S&W Forum:

I finally got around to ordering some ropers in fancy walnut from Herrett’s for my Model 19. I got a call from them today advising that they are closing their doors and may or may not be able to fulfill my order. They said they’d call me soon to confirm and wouldn’t charge my card until the order is processed. I asked about the closure and learned that Mr. Herrett is retiring and they’re losing the lease on their building. They were hoping someone could come in and buy the company but no such luck so far. I’ve never owned a set of their grips, so I really hope they can make them for me! Either way, it’s sad to see them go after so many years. Thought I’d give a heads up to all you Herrett’s fans out there.

Quite a few yrs ago , they where "the" grip, or Jays, about every target gun had a set of Herretts on it, I just sold a set for a Colt Python , about as good as it gets.

I just completed a refinishing on a set I picked up at a gun show. That's the third set I've done. I gave a fourth to a buddy of mine as I didn't have another N frame that needed any.

Doesn't surprise me, ....last time I dropped in for a visit with Rod, they were down to virtually no employees and concentrating on other stuff to keep busy. At one time they were the place to go, but doing virtually no advertising, the new generation doesn't know of them, and prefer rubber or plastic grips. Shame to see them go, though.
