Took delivery on Sunday at the Canora show of a batch of the above ammo. I bought it early this Spring. Nice reloadable brass. Good looking stuff. :)

I was under the impression that Hertenberger was all non corrosive. Can anyone confirm otherwise, with first hand experience? I've got hundreds of rounds left of the case I bought and now I don't want to plink with it in my precision rig.

you know what..... I am wrong LOL I will admit I got that mixed up in my head ...... I came to this thread after spending some time reading thru a corrosive/non corrosive norinco ammo discussion. What I should have said.... Hurtinburger comes in berdan and boxer primer depending on the lot. Regardless of primer..... it is excellent ammo.
Shot a lot of this stuff in the M305/M14 platform and in a friends Valmet. It does recoil a little harder in the semi auto's and some folks call it 'hot' for 7.62 but my rifles ate it up just fine.
I stocked up when Wolverine Supplies still had crates for sale and prices were reasonable. Can't even order surplus ammo now that canpar quit shipping ammo n stuff. Glad I stocked up before that happened.
 
The switch to Boxer happened partway through 1979 if my memory serves me. They were loaded with non corrosive compound regardless. Yes the brass is great just make sure you've got a primer pocket swage.
 
I treat all surplus as corrosive. Fluid Film is my friend. This batch is 1980. I will be shooting it out of my Israeli 98's. :)
 
The 1975 stuff I have non boxer primed.

I shot it out of my Israeli K98 and it isnt corrosive. I got a NOS barrel installed and doubt I cleaned it since I shot it last. Zero rust.

That's crazy but I've heard it before!

I never had any fancy guns like that but with my Tikka CTR it consistently hit playing cards at 500m if I did my part, and while I never grouped my 12" IBI match barrel with the ammo, it would hit 8" plate all day long at 300m inside about a 1.5-2MOA group. 3 crates, 2 years of manufacture.

Must like some guns and not others?
 
I have stack up both the berdan and the boxer. My findings showed in 2 rifles a slight advantage in velocity to the berdan. In my FNAR the berdan will group 1.5 MOA all day long. Great surplus

Odd. Shoots under 2moa at 100 in both my savage and k98..
 
ya odd..... when I owned a krieger barrelled LRB M25 the hirtenberger was consistently the most accurate surplus ammo I fed it. Near MOA groups until she starts to heat up, easy 2moa with M14 irons. Shot really well out to 500 as well when compared to south african and norinco green box.
