Well I picked up some factory ammo a few months ago for Schitz-N-Giggles.
I hand load all my rifles normally
I’ve shot these plates with lots of different cartridges.
Only things that have pitted the steel is really fast. 3200fps impacts and up.

Well playing around yesterday. I decided to try some on the Herters stuff at 100 and 200 yrds.
It dented the plate. Not like a 204 ruger or 22-250. That give you that splatter looking craters.
Nice round dent

These are 150g SP @ 2390fps on the box.

Has anyone used this brand. What the heck are the bullets made of?

There's a surprise, eh?! Dents or dimples though? As in, is the AR500 material just bending under impact, or actually flowing?

Lots of things like uneven heat treat or a well used piece of steel can lead to things like that. Speed isn't everything either. 12 and 20 Gauge slugs are hell on AR500. Even out at 50m the hollow point portion tends to blast out a piece of metal. Sort of like a shaped charge I guess, sort of.

I shot my 3/8" AR500 at 100Y with my 303 soft points and even that cratered.. That even took a chunk out of the corner I hit.

What B said, probably acts like a shape charge.. Since the material is softer it doesn't deflect as much, so it can focus the energy in that area.

I was shocked because I shoot these plates with 30-30 hand loads and it just chips paint.
I hit them with my 375 ruger. No damage
243 7-08 and a bunch of others.
Only rounds that did anything more the lbs paint damage was 204 and 22-250.

Guess it is what it is.
