Herters ammo

Old Herters isn’t the same as new Herters. The old stuff was top shelf, with at least some of their brass made by Norma. I don’t know about the new stuff but under twenty bucks a box it certainly isn’t mad3 by Norma.

I just bought a few boxes of Herter's .303 Brit(green box 180 gr soft point) at Bass Pro in Tsawwassen BC. $22 a box which is pretty good these days. A quick google says it's probably manufactured by S&B and that the brass is good for reloading. I wish there was some 8mm Mauser there for the same price!

You darn right that's a good price.

Back in the 60's and 70's Herters operated out of Waseca, Minnesota and published a yearly catalogue that was an inch thick. The had great prices, pretty decent quality stuff and one could order items and get them shipped up here with NO PROBLEMS. They sold everything related to fishing hunting and trapping..........before Cabelas took over. I still have some of their stuff. Wonder if theres any real connection between the old and new Herters or just someone using the name.

The current use of the Herter name is just a brand of Cabela's. Herter's went bankrupt in 1981.
Current Herter shotshells are rebranded Winchester according to the Internet.

The 6.5 creedmoor ammo was 18.99 a box!! It's made by winchester so the brass should be half decent for reloading. I plan on shooting the stuff for plinking and reloading with better bullets after.

Still have a couple of those catalogues from the 60's and am still using their press and dies, going on 50 years. Where does the time go.
