Herters brass

Thanks for the input Hitzy and everyone else, I'm now leaning toward this being S&B brass. I don't think the rim has been machine formed when I compare it to other Rem or Win brass. Also, I think a machined rim would have closer tolerances than what I'm seeing with this stuff. It's also heavy, 257 grains compared to 233 grains for my old WW brass so I think I'll be starting with pretty conservative charges and working up carefully.

I have some 7mmRem Norma, it weighs 218-220gr, some PRVI I have is 270gr+, same size case as your 264 just to give you more info. When you seat a primer you will know if it's S&B for sure.

I have some vintage Herter's 7x57 brass, and the box is stamped "Made in Canada", so presumably, Dominion/C.I.L. It probably varied depending on the caliber and lot who actually made it.

I believe those cartridges were made out of country and the "made in canada" only refers to the box.

I did a job for a plant in Alberta, which made mineral blocks for sale in the US. All of the molds had "made in USA" in raised letters on the bottom.

It was legal to do this back in the day, as long as something in the package was made in the country stated.

Thanx for those pics. Any idea when they were made???

I have some of those boxes and likely they have the same description of contents.

Yes they made brass for them Dominion Cartridge Co as you say I remember shooting a lot of 9mm back in the day of herters. Herters have never made anything themselves but those boxes also look newer than the 50's which I thought was the time they changed names so maybe CIL

You're definitely right that Herter's wasn't a manufacturer, but back in those days, you could trust they ensured the quality of whatever they sold and they had an iron clad guarantee on returns.

Agree 100%. Not like today. I will see if I can find some pics of their ammo my bud had trouble with last year
