Herter's dies

Herters dies, like all their products, was very popular at one time, and much less expensive, than any of the other brands. Opinion was about divided, you either loved them, or you hated them.
I know at least one person, who has used Herters loading equipment, including dies, for years and years. Swears by them. I think they had some mighty fine rifles with their name on, also.
I once bought dies for my 243. First ime I set up the sizing die, I had the decapper and neck expander too far extended. The handle of the press went down normal, pushed out the primer. But the handle raised with difficulty and when I got the case out, I discovered the neck expander shaft was bent like a wet noodle.
I returned them for RCBS dies.

I've owned and used several Herters dies for 40 years.......never a problem.
I also really liked the brass and bullets Herter's used to sell. I picked up several hundred each of 30-06, 30Carbine and 30-30 from an old store in Rutland, BC that went out of business. Hunters.
I used up all of the different 30 cal bullets but still have some 338 cal 225 round nose left. I still have a couple of boxes of 30-30 and 30-06 brass left. I got talked out of several hundred of 30carbine, greedy fool that I was I let them go. That brass is amazing. Literally dozens of reloads each.
Back to the dies, I've never had a problem with bullet run out or marked brass as long as the dies are kept clean. I've got a set of 30-06 dies that have at least 10,000 rounds through them and they still produce true cartridges.

Thanks for the info mbogo. It was always marked with the Herter's name and came in either silver boxes with the Herter's coat of arms emblem or in large brown non corrugated cartons with the Herter's symbol and logo in black.
I think that old Herter's brass is better than the newer Norma brass. It certainly retains its malleability longer.
