Herters Seater Die

I just bought a 300 savage herters sizer die from the EE. I've been looking around to see where I might pick up a seater die to match this. I can't seem to find anything. Anyone know where I might get this, if in fact I can? Thanks for your help.

Herters has not been around since the 70's I think. I have an old Herters press that still works great allthough I dont use it anymore. I think your best luck would be at gunshows etc.. Or maybe post in the EE if you have not allready.

"I mentioned Herters and I suspect that is a name foreign to many of you, but in my youth their catalog was the wish book for all things outdoors. Everything they had was usually considerably less expensive, but it was all "model perfect." Their catalog was some of the most entertaining reading you could find because it chronicled the adventures of the Herter clan and promoted their products with a flair that would have made P.T. Barnum blush with shame. Everything was the best you could buy and if you didn't believe that all you had to do was read a little further. For the shooter they had it all. But maybe the best tribute is by my friend Jim Devereux, who still loads every round he shoots on a Herter press bought when we were teenagers.

I don't know how much of the stuff they actually made, but it was a bit of a surprise, many years later, to walk into Sako's conference room in Rhiimaki, Finland, and see a showcase full of ammo, brass and primers in Herter boxes. They also created a business model for mail order by having good stuff at reasonable prices and delivering promptly. That's pretty much what Midway USA does today, so I guess it is still a good plan. I truly lamented the passing of the Herter's catalog in the early '70s.

Come to think of it, I have a friend who has a huge box of old reloading stuff(it was his fathers). Most of the items in that box are from Herters, I will ask him to have a look for you.

I had that box at my place at one time but dont remember all the dies he had, but there was quite a few, might get lucky.
 
Thanks very much for responding and checking out the Herters. I got a pretty much negative opinion on this equipment from another site. It seems Herters was good in its day but inferrior to something like Lee or RCBS of today. I'm just starting at reloading, waiting for my EE stuff to arrive and trying to sort out what else I need. Thanks again for your help.

I used quite a few Herter's products years ago and they were never junk. Still have a butcher knife and a Herters saddle scabbard that continue to serve me well. The scabbard is very heavy bullhide with a booted cover and the best I ever owned or even saw. I could have sold it many times to guides and horsemen who wanted it.

As to the dies, I have used them in a number of different calibers. My 303 British die set is still going strong. :)

Sorry Norm, made a phone call tonight, he has nothing in 300 Savage. :(

I will keep you in mind in the future in case I come across something.

Hey no problem, thanks for trying. I made a deal with someone to purchase a second hand RCBS set so it's working out okay. I'll still keep the Herters die and see how that works as well. I should have most of my stuff in a couple of days, just a lubekit and shellholder left to get. Picked up an old teacher's desk (free) as a bench so the pieces are falling into place.
