Hevi-Shot Slugs - Guide Grade

I picked up a box of them at Cabelas the other day. 12ga - 3" - 1 1/4oz - 1350 FPS. Anybody out there try them? Just curious.

I was just looking at these on Cabela's website today. Doesn't seem to be much info out there on them, can't even find it on the manufacturer site. Any chance you can recover a slug or cut one open in the name of science?

Regular price is 49.99 on sale for 34.99. Not cheap and I thought 20 bucks was expensive. That is nuts more than 8 bucks per slug.

I would hope they are DAMNED good slugs for that kind of money. I'm glad my slug gun likes the $2.50/piece Federal blue box slugs.

Just be sure you use them in a rifled barrel since they are sabot type and not foster type. They won't like being forced through a choke of any kind.

Federal offers a rifled 1 1/4 oz slug that goes 1600 FPS for like half that price.

I've chronied Federal and Winchester foster slugs advertised at 1600fps and both shot around 1450fps. Just food for thought.

I'm glad both my rifled and smooth bore shotguns shoot my cast slugs accurately. Hard to beat $.25/slug reloads ($.40/slug if I have to buy the lead instead of free wheel weights). That is until lead ammo is banned and I have to switch to ultra premium nontox ammo that I can't cast for

Is it non-toxic though? Nontox ammo is always at premium prices.

That's for a box of 10, not 5. That means they are $5 a slug, not $8.

Yes these are a box of ten shells. I couldn't find them on the Hevi-Shot website so maybe these are discontinued and possibly why they are on sale? If I am up to it I'll try and get some pics or video taking a shell apart, gotta find my dang HD video cam!

I bought 10 boxes of hevi shot deer slugs they were on sale for 9.99 they are devastating the best slug I've ever used to bad they discontinued them but they were same specs as the bear slugs

Bwahaha I'm a little shy about taking them out and shooting. One of my SBE's is outfitted with a mercury recoil reducer I may just run it through that gun as it does a good job with felt recoil.
