I have always wanted to buy a nice hex mosin nagant. Now I have my PAL, it seems like the price has drastically gone up. About a year ago I remember my friend purchasing a hex mosin in the 200 to 250 dollar range. Now it seems like most of the gun shops are selling them for 300 - 350 dollar range. Of course, the price depends on the condition of the rifle, but what would be an appropriate price to pay for a good condition matching hex Mosin Nagant? and if anybody knows the reason why the price has gone up so much please share with me. I am very curious.

If you get on the EE you will find more reasonable prices from decent sellers if you are patient. Retailers are gouging for what it is presently. No doubt the quality is a bit nicer and being older they're more collectable but I've used wartime produced mosins that are more accurate then a cosmetically beautiful hex receiver mosin. Personally the most I've paid for a mosin 91/30 was $280 shipped to the door for a mosin that met every requirement I wanted (markings, receiver, stock) other then that I've got hex receivers (even one with a laminate stock) for as low as $156 plus tax from the now closed Le Baron store in Missisauga to just over $200 from site sponsors. Try putting a WTB ad up in the EE and see what you can get with a private sale as opposed to buying retail is the best advice I can give. There are still decent people here that know a mosin is still a mosin at the end of the day.

P&S and Weimarjack sell the hex guns for $225-250. Anyone charging $300+ is gouging. The importers (north sylva and tradex) are not charging a premium for them to the dealers.

Yeah, and the ones from the early 30's seem to fetch a bit less and are not as prevalent as ones from the 20's.

There are some dealers (west rifle?) who are really gouging by dramatically increasing cost for early guns. Again, the importers are not distributing them at a premium, so consider wisely where you direct you "hard earned".

Mosins are surplus guns... once upon a time you could get unmolested Lee-Enfields at Army and Navy for $50, now the same will cost you $700. A few years ago you could get a Podolsk/Kovrov SVT for $240, now they'll cost almost double that if you find them. Many guys are scrambling trying to find Nagant revolvers. They sold for $175 when they were around. Now you see guys asking $700.

That's the way of surplus... when they're gone, they go up in value.

I bought an all matching hex Mosin from Weimajack for $225 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, all his hex Mosins are gone by now. Mine is an excellent shooter. The first shooting at 25 yards gave me 0.7" grouping on average. Next shooting session at 100 yrds.

You have not seen the current wholesale prices from distributors regarding hex receiver Moisin Nagants because if you did you would understand why current retails have gone up. The prices you quoted are what we now pay at wholesale. Phil.

Maybe find a different wholesaler? Tradex is still selling unsorted crates of Eosins and preferred dealers can cherry pick the hex receivers at the same price as a run of the mill wartime rifle.

He gets them from Trade in Hawkesbury. Just wait, there will be more at that price I think.

Really? I didn't know that. Nevertheless, Tradex has no hex receiver Mosins for quite a long time. Only the round receivers are left. Taking into account the unending sanctions on Russia and the political situation in Ukraine I'm not so sure that there would be more Mosins and particularly those with the octagonal/hex receivers, coming into Canada. I'm rather pessimistic on that.

I have a 1935 hex receiver. My friend's Mosin has a round receiver. What I noticed is the barrel on the hex model has a thicker diameter. I guess the difference is more than just the receiver shape.

That's not accurate. Tradex doesn't offer receiver selection on their website and they won't hand pick if you call them. I've tried. They say it's because they sell them too cheap to put any effort into it. But that does not mean they don't have them. They just ship the next one out of the box.

If you are a preferred dealer, they will let you do your own handpick - that is how Armurie Du Lac gets their hand-selected guns.

Another tidbit is that ALL the Tradex guns are arriving in Canada with matching bayonets, but it's too much work for most dealers to sort the 20 loose bayonets in the bottom of each crate and match them to the rifles. Jacques used to do this, but he no longer does - supposedly because most buyers don't care and it takes time that he doesn't want to devote to the task.

Hey Ronald.-

Most of my Mosin Nagant come now with same serial number than the receiver.

Mosin Nagant with octogonal (hex) receiver are no more available.

Actually the hex Mosin I recently bought from Jacques came with a matching bayonet. Unfortunately, it still requires some fine fitting but that's O.K. I'm a handyman anyway.

We may volunteer for the job.

That's sad news.

North Sylva has a couple thousand Mosins in country now, but they are charging considerably more than Anthony is. The NS guns are also heavily coated in cosmolene - ridiculously so. Not fun to clean up.

For $300 isn't bad with a kit and bayonet.......what sucks is the $35 + for shipping..........I have a few squirreled away and they all shoot 1.25-1.5" 3 shot groups at 100 yards with ball ammo and VG+ bores...........may part with a couple and keep one........Harold
