hey guys i just picked up a real nice/clean mosin dated 1935 with a hex reciever. anyone know anything about them? i have an m44 carbine so i know a bit about the mosins. anything you can tell me would be great. merry christmas!
 
Well its a prewar production and they are usually regarded as being of higher quality and finish because making the hex was much more time consuming. I also read they are slightly more collectible although that I find a bit hard to believe. I have one my self and while I prefer my No4 MK1 its a nice rifle and is a nice addition to my collection.
 
The above post has a great link. Read up on these rifles. They have a great history. Rugged, simple, reliable and accurate. Can't ask for a whole lot more in a surplus war horse! Read up on sighting the rifles. There is a lot of discussion about how they shoot high and to right or left, with and with out bayonet. The first time you take it to range you'll find all this out yourself :)

Be careful if you are going to attach the bayonet. It's apparently a nightmare to get off again.

Another word of caution: mosins tend to be addictive! They are cheap right now, and it's always good to buy cheap and stack em deep.

Try out a mosin with a PU scope too!

I had a '34 Hex Mosin 91/30 and I loved it. The fit and finish was pretty good on it. I really wish I wouldn't have sold it
 
thanks alot guys. this is my second mosin, my other is an m44 carbine. ill admit im a milsurplus junkie. i fix military weapons for a living and i find shooting them dull. this new one will share a safe with a jungle carbine, an yugo m48bo mauser in 8 mm, a m44 mosin dated 1944, an svt 40 from tula and a few others. ill chck out the link. oh and i only paid 179.00 for the mosin and shes real pretty. i would post pics but my ex wife took my camra!
 
I have a 1928 M91/30. Its a refurb in very very nice shape. Bought it 10 years ago, didn,t fire it yet but its on my "must do" list. Bore is excellent,wood too,only negative point: a damn importer stamp:(

mine looks like your minus the import stamp. im going to shoot mine as soon as i get back east on the 29 th. i love just how simple, fun and accurate these rifles can be. ive shot my m44 out to 200 meters on an 18 x18 hard steel plate and it seems to group nice, about 6 inches. not bad for a 70 year old rifle! what do i look for to tell if its a referb??

Look for a refurb mark, a box with a line inside. Usually found on the stock.
If you can post pics, we would like to see your rifle, never too much pictures of good old mosin:)

ill see what i can do to find a camra, im 1200 km from home visiting a buddy of mine for christmas. ill see what i can do. shes not a referb. i cant find that mark on her anywhere.

i took the old girl out of her stock and found rust, lots of it. now what? she got rust and pitting on 3 spots under the barrel and some on the mag housing. the rifle does not have a referb mark on her. so what should i do? i cleaned up the rust but is it worth keeping as is or should i say screw it and remove the rear sight and scope it? i do love her but rust is like cancer, shold i put the old girl down and scope her. shes an tula 1935 octagon reciever. perfect except for the pitting. any ideas?
