Hey all you 10/22 freaks...

I cheated and years ago found the all stainless AMT version, came with stainless folder stock, reciever is all stainless, so is trigger housing and group. And that darn thing can shoot! Excellent version of the breed, if you can find one, grab it!

I have 5 1022's and all of them function just fine. I have done all of the little tricks you find on Rimfire Central like the trigger/hammer polishing, the auto bolt release and several have new high end barrels and custom stocks. I have never experienced a problem even before I modified them. I do not have any experience with the plastic ones and I will probably buy use (Pre-owned) from now on just to make sure I get full metal.;)

They are superb little guns that you can do or make into all sorts of things.

It would seem that your wife if very intelligent and has extremely good taste.
You are a very fortunate man. It's a wonder she puts up with you?

I just got back from the killing fields. I ran about 50 or 60 rounds through the Ruger with zero problems. It fired my favorite bulk ammo without a single hicup. My old 10/22 wouldn't run on it. It only fired Cyclone on up flavours of loads. This one, though at first seemed kind of iffy/rough in the bolt cycled far better. I parked it early on though in favour of my Browning, and then fed the rest of the 500 round box to it. I'm about to mount a scope on the Ruger this Afternoon and then I'll give it a good workout next weekend. I'm off to the land of prairie rats for a weekend shoot and I'm bringing 9000 rounds with me. I'll try and get a couple thousand through it to see how it does, but as of now I can say it is far superiour to my old model 10/22 despite being of lesser quality.

I tried real hard to buy a 10/22 for the shoot. I just couldn't justify paying that much money for a gun with plastic parts and the lesser fit/finish. My wife's older 10/22 has acceptable quality and only cost about 2/3 of the current price. Heck, even the $500+ target models have a lot of plastic.

I ended up buying a CZ and I expect to have it forever. That said I still want another 10/22 but I'll wait until either Ruger smartens up or I can find a nice used one.

I really hope that someone comes out with a semi-auto .22 that accepts large capacity mags and can use a mag loader. Ruger needs some competition.

I remember paying 179.00 for mine back in 93. Bought it from Stalker Sports out of Saskatoon. I'll I have done with it is install a hogue stock, butler creek heavy barrel and extender mag release. Thing consistently gets 1 MOA at 50 yards. I also have the volquartson muzzle brake. Does anyone find that the brake makes a difference ?

Off and on I consider buying another 10/22, but it really chaffs my a** that they're using so much damn plastic on them. I never was much of a fan of the barrel band, which is why I initially bought the DSP model. Funny thing is, that nice wood stock is now sitting alone in the gun safe, as it has long been replaced by a Hogue synthetic . My only saving grace is that I still have my old metal trigger group, so if I did buy another one, I could at least replace the plastic trigger... But then I'd start swearing at the 10# trigger pull, and replace it with a $$$ trigger group anyway.... *sigh* Aren't 10/22s fun? :p

I will say though, that mine is now running like clockwork. Wasn't too bad to begin with, I'd have the RARE FTE, and once a FTF. Ever since I replaced the extractor, it's 100%. I can load up mag after 25 round steel lips mag or the factory mags, and blow off rounds as quick or as slow as I'd like to without any problems. I'm almost scared to clean it for fear of pissing off the Gods and having something START going wrong. I'd wager it'll still be running problem free 20 years from now.
