Hey all you 338wm shooters & owners

Thanks for the ballistics info, I did end up buying darkshadow's piece. I plan on shooting this one more than my last. Can anyone recomend a recoil pad that will fit the m77mk1 stock with minimal fuss. I don't want a slip on. Thanks everyone for their input. RF

My son has a .338 Sako 75 W/ Swarovoski 2.5 to 10 - nice rifle. My Ruger 77 .300 Win Mag is a little less punishing and does a better job at killing moose. He's killed one...I've killed four over the same time period. (I know you have to see em before you can kill them.)

Better to buy a 338 rather than build one on a non magnum boltface action, IMHO.

FWIW, the 338 WM is a good cartridge, but I've never seen it kill any better than a ,.300:)

I'd suggest removing the stock hockey puck recoil pad yourself. It's only a couple screws. Then go to the limbsaver website, print off a bunch of recoil pad templates and hold the butt of your rifle up until you find one that works.

Thats what I did with my Ruger MK-II and I found one that works perfect.

Go purchase the pad, take the 2 screws and put on the new one.

Done and Done.

New Tikka Elk Killer

Well the new T3 LS is here in 338. Oh ya baby she kicks, but it's not that violent, I did 18 off the bench yesterday and I feel fine. Gotta have a good hold of her before touching one off, any "gap" between you and the butt and it kicks you pretty good! That limbsaver is worth every bit of the 50 bucks, screwed right on with out any trimming. First breakin loads of H4350 with 225 SP's settled in right on 1" at 100y...The third shot seems to walk off a bit? Might have to look at the bedding or if the barrel is touching somewhere. 69.5g of H4350 is giving right around 2800fps so that is fine. The recoil is more stout then the Ruger M77, but the muzzle seems to jump less, must be related to how the stock fits me...anyway, sure is nice to carry around and I intend to carry it more then shoot it off a bench.

Go with Sako. The barrel is heavier for the 338WM and I find the stock fits me excellently resulting in excellent recoil management.
I found my friend's Ruger 338 WM to kick the fillings out of my mouth.
Another friend has the BAR in 338WM and it does not kick as much as the Ruger

I have the 338wm in a remington xcr i have used it hunting for every thing and you gan shoot it all day with out a sore shoulder.kicks less than my 25-06 rugger .it's completly stock .

i'm happy with my t3 laminate in 338. easy to carry and not fussy on what i shoot. will shoot 200, 210 and 225's equally well.
