Just moved back from the US after 12 years. Completed the CFSC and applied for PAL. Customs will give me back my rifles soon. I have to do the restricted course. Sold all the evil black rifles and pistols before I came home. I'll be looking for info on how to aquire/what's legal in Canada when I get the restricted part done.

Hello and welcome from Nova Scotia's South Shore. Having moved here from the US (but born in Toronto) just 3-1/2 years ago, I understand your situation. I did a similar thing with guns (long and short) that I brought with me. It went well, but took some time. Good luck with it.

What're ya't, me son?

I'm up in Alberta now, slaving away at the grind ... Hope to be home this summer (would be nice to get some shooting time down on the Rock).

There are lots of guns for sale here, and good suppliers from what everyone else has said (I have not purchased from the board yet).

One think that I got from being on here is that you should call the CFO about a week or two after your permit clears the RCMP and it will speed things along. It does in Alberta, anyways.

I hope you enjoy being home. Have a good time shooting.

what's the process for a Canuck to get a gun in the states.

I'd like to know more

Can I just go in and get a gun with my Canadian identification, or do I have to be a resident/citizen?

Ya, what a headache. Still got a place in TN. Left anything considered restrictive (AR's, AK, pistols) there until I figure out the process.

Thanks for the heads up on the CFO.

sorry you had to come back.

Our choice to come back. I'd recommend everyone spend a decade in the south to see what it's really like and how much BS they portray on the news here. The gun laws are great, never felt safer in my life even before I had my CCW. TN is a shall issue state so you can CCW or open carry.

Have to be a resident (green card) but as long as you have a state drivers licesense and a SSN# you can purchase a firearm. My wife's employer paid for both of us to get green cards, lawyers fees, the works.

The day I got my green card I went to the gun shop (I used to rent guns and use their range before) with my TN drivers license, filled out the paperwork/background check - done on the spot. The background check took 15 minutes, the longest I ever had to wait was 1 1/2 hours because the system was busy. I went home and they called when it went through. As long as you have no felonies or mental illness you give them the money and walk out with a .40 Sig and Colt AR-15 like I did.

Ammo prices here are going to kill me.

Just a heads up, once you get your restricted course done, the CFO here in NL will want proof of a gun club membership before you will be able to purchase any restricted firearms. You will also need to do the orientation course at the club before the CFO will accept the membership card.

Yeah but this county is still better.

You have a source for black rifles and parts right in Newfoundland. Check out Arms East Inc. banner at the top of the page. The owner, Walt, posts here as Dangertree.
