Hey, from Calgary

Thanks. Hoping I will have my PAL by Monday at the latest (Friday earliest). Planning on picking up a Mossberg Cruiser, a Norinco M305B, and a Ruger 10/22 as my first toys (thoughts?).

I'd really like to get a semi-auto non-restricted version of an AR-15 (C7) just because it's what I'm most familiar with, but from what I've read they're restricted/prohibited. Mossberg makes a good-looking one, noticed it has no forward assist though. Guess they've made improvements?

I'm not sure I could do my Immediate Action drills without a forward assist. :D It would totally ruin my mojo.

I had the same attitude about getting a C7 like rifle when I released too.

Eventually settled on a few Norinco CQA's. Good decision, imo, even being restricted. Great quality for the price. I can shoot mine about as good as I could shoot a C7 at 100m, tolerable at 200m (my excuse is the 6" shorter barrel ) - and with no SM to jack me up for not being able to look down the barrel and see that it's spotless - I just do a quick "good enough" cleaning and leave it heavily lubed with CLP (as I do with all my guns).

For non-res, if you're looking for good, inexpensive military quality rifles, you should consider an SKS or goofy barrelled CZ-858. .223 is expensive (unless you reload) but 7.62x39 surplus is still pretty cheap.

The M305's are a good call though. I bagged my first deer with one, but if was just a bit too much gun for what I planned to use it for and so I settled on a Marlin XL7 in .308 (about on par with price and quality, and more suited to my needs as a light weight, short-mid range, .30 cal plinker and deer gun).

No sweat Fuchsix :) . What element were you guys a part of? I was in an Infantry Reserve Unit back in Ontario. 2nd Irish Regiment. Then went Reg Force Navy on the East Coast.

Thanks for the info Harbl. I'll check out the rifles you've mentioned. I'm still waiting on my PAL. She wasn't in the mailbox on Friday. As a result, my weekend was a lot more boring that I'd planned.
