limited gun experience...
:)

Welcome to the gun nutz forum. :welcome:

What sorts of firearms do you currently own? Are you a hunter, target shooter, or collecter?

If you are looking for specific info, the search tool on the site is a great resource for past discussions and can usually get you started in the right direction.

Other than that, jump in to the discussion! (no lurking aloud :D)

:welcome: X 2, and please don't lurk, we've got too many lurkers now, what we need is people to get involved and stand up for their rights as gun owners. Jump in and contribute your comments, time and support. This is a great site with lots of info and great people. If you're not already a Canadian Shooting Sports member, click on their icon at the top of the page and sign up online, they need the membership and support and we need the CSSA. And again:welcome:

ok... enough lurking...

I've done some target shooting in the past and just got my papers from "the man", so now i'm looking to get my first gun. Maybe i can get some feedback/help here:

I've used what was only described to me as a "cheap chinese knockoff of a cz", i'm guessing it was a Norinco. It seemed like a reasonable enough gun and the price seemed right so I was looking around at the marstar site and i think i've narrowed it down to

the NP-34 - (sounds about 12 units better than the NP-22)
or the NZ-85b.

I like the idea of the cheap-ass Tokarevs and NP-20 but i'm afraid they might be a little too crappy/cheapo.

if anyone can offer some thought on any of these that would be great. One concern i have is that i have, umm, "not overly big hands" and i'm guessing that the grip on the sig like gun is double-column, does that make it thicker and tougher to hold for smaller handed people? :)

also is marstar a good place to buy from or is there some place i can go to in Ottawa area to hold/look before i buy?

any input appreciated! thanks!

"...for smaller handed people?..." Hi. No matter what the price of a handgun or the calibre, if it doesn't fit your hand, you won't be able to shoot it well. My hands are wide, but short. A lot of really good handguns(like CZ75's) just don't fit. The Browning High Power, the .45 Government Model, the Ruger GP-100(and .44 mag Super Redhawk. Same size grip. It's a great big, 4 lb, sob though.) fit just fine. So do Ruger Vaqueros and other 'cowboy' revolvers. However, if a handgun is close to fitting, a change of grips can sometimes make it fit. Depends on the frame. Normal K-frame S&W revolvers don't fit my hand no matter what grip.
Don't buy unless you can try the pistol on for size. The cost of said pistol doesn't always mean it's junk. Warsaw Pact firearms were designed to be issued to illiterate conscripts who could use them with minimal training. They do tend to be extremely reliable though. I don't think Marstar has a retail store though.
