hey

I hunt with my SVT40 and there is no game in north America that it cannot knock over, especially if you use readily available 205 grain soft points. There is nothing on the rifle that needs to be modified for hunting other than the use of soft points.

Ah yes, but just think how much more successful a hunter you would be if your SVT 40 looked like this..

Budget.

The SKS is easily accessoried, modified and upgraded, has little recoil, and is easy to resell.

For less than a thousand dollars you can have the gun, a folding synthetic stock, four rails loaded with all the accessories you'd have on an AR, and a magazine going down to your knees. Maybe a crate of cartridges in that price too.

exactly i like the look of an sks :) and svt 40

The 858 is a nice gun that I'd be proud to own. I don't know about rails or optic mounts available for it, and IMHO the masonite wooden stock has an odd texture and makes me wonder if it'll break off when wet.

The stocks are fine, they just don't look it. You can get replacement wood for them if you feel the need.

^ Beautiful.

Either of those rifles would serve you well for hunting. Take a good look at the CZ though. I use it for hunting all the time. I've taken multiple yotes and a bear with it. I even took it with me for a week long fly fishing trip last week as my "in case something goes horribly wrong" gun. I have a folding stock on it to make it compact. It's quite light for what it is too which is nice when slogging around the bush. Definitely a consideration to keep in mind.

Stormwerkz in the states makes an excellent folding mech for the CZ. He ships to Canada too. There is also the Fab Defense folding mech. Both are aftermarket so the initial cost of 7-750 is obviously going to star rising when you start modding the rifle.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but apparently I have aesthetic standards for red rifles.

Thanks for posting the beautified 858.

What about the flux converter !

By the time you have thrown your money at an SKS or an SVT ( what mods are there for an SVT ? ) you could easily have spent what a CZ 858 costs. A CZ 858 is a sporty looking rifle as is, it has a pistol grip, and it comes with four 30 round mags.

I think the OP is on a budget here, the SKS would probably suit best right now. I put a folding stock on mine, makes it nice and handy for carrying in the woods although I vastly prefer a good bolt action for hunting. Stay away from the dust cover scope mounts and it'll do just fine on a deer, MFS soft points are easily available. The SVT while a good rifle (got three of em now) is difficult to find scope mounts or really any aftermarket parts for.

And by the way, it's FLUX CAPACITOR there Doc Brown. If you want to have some fun, phone an auto parts store and ask for one to fit an 85 Delorean! New kids fall for it every time!

You are probably right about the budget, all the more reason to not waste $ on after market crap.

Yes you're right, it's a long time since I seen the movie.:D Fantastic movie btw.
