So I've long, long since been puzzling over a .204.

Right now, I'm torn between and ruger m77 vs a cz 527... Can anyone shed light on either of these rifles? I, admittedly, no nothing about either of these rifles.

I've read that the ruger's bolt can be less than smooth, but evidently like the price much better than the cz...

Am I okay to run the full range of .204 round weight ( 32, 40 and 45 grain) through either of them?

A smooth bolt is cool, but really doesn't factor high on functionality. I wouldn't make a decision until I'd handled them both. I have a Ruger M77 Mark 2 all weather, and I really like the feel of the stock, but those kind of things are personal. You should go to a gun store and see which one is calling out to you.

Never handled a cz but love my ruger!
Trigger is heavy, but rugers are bombproof!
Ive hunted whitetail, blacktail and moose with 20 06 MKII and have nothing but praise for it. Won t be the last one I buy

I'd buy neither due to my own personal experiences.
However, if it came down to choosing one of the two, I'd lean towards CZ.
In either case it is imperative that you fully inspect the rifle before purchase.
Both are mass produced, and attention to detail is not like the days gone by.

What would I choose? A comparable SAKO 85 or look for a nice used Brno 21 lightweight sporter! A difference of $200-300 more is significant in terms of quality.
Just my humble opinion.

I have the Ruger MKII and its a great rifle. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I had to have the trigger lightened. It broke crisp at 10 pounds from the factory... now 3.5 pounds.

Which model of CZ are you looking at? I have the walnut varmint in 204 R fantastic shooter with the 39gr Blitzking and 28gr of Varget. I have friends that have the ruger model wo=ith the gray coloured HB that love them. I have always thought that Euro guns were better built. FS

If you search around enough, there are cz527 varmints for reasonable prices. I paid about $825 to my door for my 527 varmint in 223, including a set of warne rings. I like mine, but I think an American would make a better walkabout rifle. With a fairly heavy scope mine sits just under 9 pounds, which I can handle fine.

Buddy where are you getting 1000-1100$$ sako 85s? We are talking about 800$ guns here...

Well might get flamed for this, don't really care TBH, :) but I skipped over both and went with a savage 25 LV. I've had nothing but luck with my savage .17, so might as well try a bigger caliber.

The medium contour barrel, price, detachable mag and accu-trigger sealed it for me actually.
