Hi CGN, what can you guys tell me about my K98?

So I've taken pictures of the serial numbers and other markings on a K98 I got at the Markham Gun Show on Sunday. As far as I know, it is RC as indicated by the double X's on the buttstock, made in Sauer factory in 1943, and hasn't had the eagle ground off. I am missing pictures of the floorplate, triggerguard, and bolt assembly. The following parts are matching: barrel, receiver, barrel bands, buttplate. Stock, floorplate, and bolt assembly are non-matching. What I would like to know is what the three dots that are scattered around my gun mean and a curious "waffen" stamp on the right side of my receiver. Thanks for looking! http://imgur.com/a/lowQb

Looks to be a Czech refurb of some kind. Though the peening of all German Acceptance stamps follows no example I've seen before on a Czech, Israeli, East German, or Russian refurb. The X's have nothing to do with being a Russian refurb either.

Though the stock sanding, peening, addition of the Czech sight hood, and refinishing of the metal could have been done in Canada I suppose.

The word "WAFFEN" that is crudely stamped into the metal on the right side translates to "weapon".

But that was never officially stamped by the German authorities ever.

This rifle is worth less than a nice Czech or Russian refurb in my opinion, but if you like it and it shoots well, that's what matters.

I wouldn't even bother with this rifle. With the prices for 7.92 ammo/lack of milsurp ammo these days go unpeened RC/all original or go home, you won't be shooting it much anyways at $2.50 per round. These days my K98 sees more blanks during WW2 reenactment than live ammo.

$2.50 for hunting ammo...S&B or ppu is ~$30 a box. Still some surplus ammo around as well.

A lot of Albanian k98's follow this pattern. Mostly matching parts but every swastika is horrible defaced on them. Should be a good shooter if the bore is decent. Value? Probably around $400.
