Hi all,
I have been lurking on this site for a few months after being told about it by another member. I researched my first guns from posts on this site, and found it to be an amazing wealth of knowledge and experience here.

Living in Calgary the last couple years, just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the great info so far. I started my collection with a Marlin .22 because you can't live in the prairies and not hunt gophers. Then i bought my first shotgun, a Mossberg 500. Then a couple weeks ago, I just had to get a surplus Russian SKS rifle.

As my name implies, my other addiction is flyfishing.

welcome to the group, if you have an sks you should join us in Nov at calgary and district target shooters for the Service rifle match.

Thanks for the invite, but I just read up on the service rifle match, those distances look to be a little much for a newby.... especially since I haven't put a scope on the sks yet because of all I have read here about them not holding zero very well.

Well we have two types. Iron sights which is the stock service rifle and open which is a 4 powered max scope. Most of the group shoots iron sights and shoots well. Its not about what you score its more about meeting fellow shooters and having fun in the sport. My friend just bought a sks just to do it and let me say we both are not sharp shooters lol. But if your interested in joining us send me a pm and I can give u more details (I shot crap my first time out with my cz 858 but everyone there are very encouraging and helpful in adjusting your rifle to help u cut out the center :) oh and fyi the yardage we shoot is 100 yards which isn't at all hard to have fun with
