Hi everyone. I'm from Calgary and looking to get involved in the shooting sports.

I just completed my PAL and RPAL. Interested in hunting and target shooting. I'm a complete noobie and anyone with any advice I'd love to hear from you.

Welcome to CGN. If you want to hunt, you're gonna need to take your Hunter's Ed course. As far as local target shooting goes, there are plenty of options.

If you have any questions about the site, or shooting in general, feel free to send me a PM any old time.

Welcome :) hunting is a great sport to get into there are a couple places in calgary that offer the hunt ed course. And target depends what ur into service rifle, pistol, 3 gun, shotgun the list goes on and on

I'm thinking of just taking the online hunters Ed course. Would you recommend it or should I go for an in person class? I will be hunting with my brother inlaw and his father who are experienced hunters.

When my licence arrives I'm thinking of purchasing an Enfield and an upland o/u (maybe a berretta silver pigeon). But who knows, I think I just need to go out and try a few things first. I'm mostly interested in upland hunting and maybe the odd deer hunt on my brother inlaws land, but I have a feeling his father will try and get me out sheep or antelop hunting sometime. I think I may have to invest in a few different firearms as the need arrises haha.

I'm really interested in the old military rifles, but I know I need to learn mote before I purchase anything.

By the way I just want to thank the guys on Canadian reload radio for there awesome podcast. It got me motivated to finally go for my PAL.

Military rifles are a great way to go forsure. The nice thing is you can open up to service rifle shoots, which there are a couple that takes place in Calgary.
Hunting upland is fun but deer and big game is the best, if you get the chance go for it.
Message me if you have any questions or need help looking for anything. ;)

If you've never hunted before, I'd go to the in-person class. I think you'd learn a lot more than what you can get out of it online. Asking questions of the instructors is IMHO better than reading about it online.
