Hi from the Island everyone!
A little about me - I don't actually own any guns yet, but I am studying for my PAL and then my RPAL in the future when time and money to purchase a handgun permit. I came to the site on the recommendation of a friend who frequents the forums in order to learn more about the process of getting all the proper papers and certifications etc., and to do research on buying my first gun! Most likely a savage MKIIBV or a ruger 10/22 to start, or, if I'm feeling really flush and am able to pass my RPAL soon, a 9mm handgun.

I'm a student at Vancouver Island University, and a musician, you can check out my band at www.stereoplane.com, i play guitar and piano. We're going to be putting out a CD canada-wide this fall, so I'm pretty excited about that as well.

anyways, I've already learned alot lurking here, and hope to learn more in the future - thanks everyone!

thanks everyone, i'm pretty excited to be here. Quick questions, did most of you who have your RPAL do both courses/tests at once, or did you start out non-restriced and 'move up' to the restricted ticket?

Do them at once. 90% of the information is the same. The restricted test just requires a little bit of extra knowledge about handguns. The instructor will provide this and/or you can read the book. Costs an extra $25 (or did, when I took it.)

I second taking them both at once -> It's really a hassle to redo otherwise. Trust me on this one, I regret not taking the package in the beginning!

Welcome aboard, plenty of good folk here who'll be happy to help out however they can. Cheers,
