Hi I am thinking about starting a Tabuk Sniper Rifle.

Buttstock is almost finished, will be moving on to making the upper and lower forend tomorrow. Was tempted to keep the forend stock, and just match the stains. But as i kindov expected the Laminate to solid wood contrast is just too noticeable. Because of the dimensions at play, the Buttstock turned out THICK lol so thick that the SVD cheek piece i bought came nowhere close to fitting, so i opted to make one from scratch. The plus side being that the stock is undoubtedly strong.

I agree... very nice work so far. Very much looking forward to seeing how you bring it to completion ;)

So are you going the Red Shellac dip route to finish the wood or some stain or varnish?

Brown stain, and possibly leaning towards spar urethane since i read my go to polyurethane is actually a poor choice cus temperature swings can make the coating crack.

Thats how i finished the maple stock on my VZ 58, my only gripe with it is i believe it doesnt offer much for scratch protection.

"Talif" the Tabuk Sniper Project is almost finished. Just need to paint the rivets used on the gas piston cover, drill the pin holes in the stock and touch up the blueing where the carry handle bracket once was. Currently waiting on steel versions of the SVD flashider and AK safety cam to be CNCed.

Below Talif is "Sasha" my bubba SKS. Im super excited to pit the two against each other this spring and summer. They both seem to be about the same weight and size. Sasha is about half the total cost of Talif.

If its under 3moa ill be clicking my heels, type 81s set have my expectations pretty low as well lol Im hoping the de cluttering of the barrel will help with accuracy.

Do you plan to sell those stocks? I'd be up for one.

Unless i can someday find a CNC router chop that can effectively produce such an item in Canada, or have the funds to purchase a stock duplicator.... its just not economically feasible.

I havent spent any time recently to find a place, having a hard enough time as is finding machine shops to make metal stuff haha
