Yesterday the used HiPoint 40 S&W carbine arrived. I put a 1.5 – 4X scope on it and tested it with a variety of ammo I had on hand.

I fired 160 rounds. Functioning was 100%. Bullets were cast lead in flat point, Semi wadcutter and round nose. They all fed and fired perfectly.

All but one ammo sample grouped well. At 25 yards, groups were about 1.5”. I thought it would have done better than this, but in retrospect this is good enough for what I intend to do with it – shoot CQB.

At 50 yards (which is 20 yards beyond maximum CQB range) groups were around 4 to 5 inches. I have not shot any other pistol caliber carbines before, so have no idea if this is good or poor performance.

I noticed that the first shot of each 10 shot group was out of the group. The scope rail is plastic. That might be a source of some group size.

The carbine is a bit heavy, which makes it more stable to shoot off hand. The trigger is mediocre. About the same as the average AR-15, or maybe a bit better.

It uses the HiPoint pistol mags, so all the mags are 10 shot. A nice touch.

Nice, I was thinking of buying one in .45acp. I have the pistol and it is big heavy, fires better then my other norinco.

I have had one for about a year now (in .40 S&W). I have fired around 1000 rounds through it already (haven't got out much) and never had any issues. I find that they are pretty accurate right out of the box. I have not put any optics on it, just the sights it comes with. I actually cleaned it for the second time last week. Double check your firing pin, mine has a bent striker, however it's never caused me any issues. I took it apart when I first got it, before I even fired it and noticed the bent striker. I contacted their warranty person via phone and left a message, I've never received a call back. Either way, as I have said it's never caused me any problems, and I never did call the guy back. I'll also recommend a fore grip, it seems to alleviate some of feel of the weight, and it'll likely tighten up your groups, as it did with mine. Enjoy yours, they're a blast!

Rootzee. I spoke to the HiPoint technical guy. He was great. he explained that the early firing pins were prone to bending so they came out with a stronger one. My 9mm carbine had a bent pin. He sent me a new one and some other bits I needed. Free.

i am looking to get one in 9mm and im from southern ontario any suggestions on who might have them?

I got mine from Prophet River Firearms. I know they aren't in Ontario, but they were great to deal with. If it matters to you or not, the 9mm does not come with 10 round mags, and you can't use their 9mm pistol mags in it either.

Thanks, I'll try that number. They have a great warranty, there's no question about that.
