I handled a Hi Point 9mm Carbine in the US and liked it, but I know the familiar song:

It's FUGLY. POS. and so on and so on..........

But now Advanced Technology is going to make an upgrade soon. Look better? Look like something else? ;) All magazines are 10 shot because they come from a Hi Point pistol.

Saw a recent test of a 40S&W version. Accuracy at 35yds was WORSE/equal then what most HG could produce. For its intended use, it will work but I hope they change those barrels when they change the stock.

They are very well priced in the US.

The odds of changing the barrel length at the factory is zero so a swap up here is required if you want it non restricted. However, since effective range is 100yds or so, how much off range shooting is going to be done.

Pistol carbines don't do much for me in the varmint or camp/bear repellant role. I have a mech tech and love it. Equally fugly but the 1911 trigger makes it feel much better. Way more accurate too.

If I wanted a short range semi, I would just pack an SKS. Better my Win94 Trapper in 45LC loaded with 325gr monsters.

The new version (bottom) is way better than the orginal (what is with that stock?) but it still ain't no storm.

However, if I had to get one it'd definitely be the new one :D... at least they are moving in a better direction :)

Hi-Point to me always meant disposable good for a few rounds, then pitch it out junk. I realize that with the pistols some get good use out of them... but wouldnt you rather just buy a good brand used or save up some more money?

I think the unit price with new stock could be under $300. But it is no Storm for sure.

I want one. I will get one. LOL. Yes it is junky. In terms of engineering, it has an Uzi type overhung bolt.

And in case you are wondering, my last three black guns came from Wolverine. You know I can afford more.

yeah but why put $300 bucks into junk? You could at least get some good Soviet #### for that money.

can you actually get hi-points in canada? or are we just speculating here? i think for 300$ that would be a bargin compared to the 1000$ needed for a storm. (sure it wouldnt be the prettist thing ever but it would still be a fun plinker)
