Hi point JHP .45 does anyone own one of these beasts? They are not very pretty i know but im thinking about buying one( quick double check on the PPE) Im not a fan of spending a bunch of money on the handguns I really want, considering that i can only take them to a range, im not going to a war zone, and im not a competition shooter, and i can't take them in the bush. So ugly,clunky and goes BANG will be just fine.

Just wondering what a half-assed general thought is on these. Please feel free to bash, trash, insult, say whatever the hell you want, i dont get insulted by computer warriors or trolls.

And let the games begin........
 
I am a fan of Norinco too, so take my comments knowing that.
I call mine the 'cordless drill'. It's fun to shoot. Heavy as hell too, which is fine once you get used to it. It becomes less ugly the more I shoot it.
It's cheap, yet built tough IMO. Works great so far.
I bought mine at Elwood Epps. I really like it.
Buy one!
 
Personally i'd buy a norc 1911 instead...but for limited range plinking the hi point would probably be ok, long as all you want it bang, bang, bang.....
 
yep bang, bang, bang, will do, just talked to a friend of mine and his advice was to double up on the ear protection to muffle out the gun snobs at any range will no doubt chime in with their useless banter about how their $1000 Sig is so much better etc. Do these guns have feeding issues and fail to fire,fail to eject issues? I get the sense that the craftsmanship is not awesome with these things( not that it would be for the price) and that there is work to be done on feed ramps etc....thoughts??
 
I had a hipoint 9mm carbine rifle, the whole line is as ugly as a drop kicked monkey but they are very accurate and have a lifetime warranty and cheaper than a norc they just work that's all there is to say about them, so buy one, heck buy one in all 3 flavours you will love it, like I said they are accurate and fun
 
Never shot a hi point, but am constantly defending norcs.... If you're on a budget, get what you can afford.. I'd like to try the carbine in 9mm, I've read the pistols are pretty reliable..enjoy
 
I have the HiPnt carbine in both 9mm and 40. Work very well.

The recent production Norincos (not the cheap clean slide ones) are well made and quite accurate out of the box.

Because they are 1911s, there is no end of the tinkering and improving you can do. A recent one may or may not need a trigger job. Other than that it is a fine pistol. The HP will always be ugly and have no improvement parts available.
 
Had one as my first pistol. Very reliable and fairly accurate. The manual says not to clean it other than run some patches down the barrel. I watched some YouTube vids took it apart and broke it putting it back together. I've never had a problem with any other gun. I traded it in after that and bought a Norinco 1911. More fun to shoot but not nearly as reliable. Not that it's horrible but it has the odd FTF or FTE. The Hi-point shot everything you threw at it including garbage reloads. If your on a budget and want a reliable gun I can't say anything g bad about it. It's a little top heavy and I've heard the mag springs get weak over time. But you can't beat it for $250
 
I do not own one, but have shot many of them. i have friends who have them. They are a little of a hastle to breakdown, ugly, look cheap, but will go bang. Surprisingly more accurate than you would expect. They are also rather tough guns. The ones ive shot were rather reliable. For a gun that sales for about $110.00 new (american price) why not? These guys put one through a serious torture test.
 
I don't own one, have never shot one, but I did pick one up and held it at a gun shop once {the owner made me do it :eek:} I put it down almost immediately and asked if I could use the washroom to wash my hands.

I can totally appreciate your line of reasoning. I feel the same way, really.

But the HighPoint is pretty ugly, imho.

I went with a Norinco 1911 instead, as it is cheap (fits your train of thought) and has the classic good looks of a 1911.
 
thanks for the input fellas...the more i look at pictures and watch youtube vids,the more i'm starting to like the hi point. Guess i'll add another gun to the collection!!
 
I may drop in my 0.2 cents if worth any, Both Hi-point and Norinco is good for their hardcore function and exceptional value. Hi-point being common for budget shooter because you get a gun that 100% made in USA for that little among of money. Having said that, just incase you lost the interest of keeping the gun, it is also difficult to sell or the resale value is too low and the gun is no way get Warranty in Canada. The Norincio 1911 single stack may cost you another $40 but you can get parts just about anywhere plus you won't lose much if you sell it. I sold two Norincos and each of them I lost less than $30.

You might be able to buy parts for your Norinco anywhere but for a HiPoint, you only have to call the company and they will mail you out the parts you need for a little less, $0.00, free, nada, zip, zilch. THEY HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY! My firing pin was a little bent, called the company and within a week I had a new firing pin in my mailbox. A friend of mine bought an old Hi-point that had been really beat for $50.00 and wanted to have it checked over before he shot it so he sent it to the company with a letter explaining the situation and because of the lifetime warranty. They just sent him a brand new one. Can't beat that!
 
I have a Hi Point JHP 45 . I bought on a whim after reading about how reliable they are. After using it, here are some of my feelings and notes about the pistol.
Heavy yes but that helps soak up recoil.
A large pistol but it fits my hand well.
Lousy factory trigger pull but 30 minutes works and a replacement trigger spring ( from a pen ) solved that issue.
Accurate as all get out. Very surprising.
Feeds anything I tried through. Again a surprise for the price.
With a 5 minute modification to a 1911 mag, it will fit & function 100%. Plus it eliminated that battery pack look.

I would compare the Hi Point to A StenGun I had many years ago. Not the best looking but it sure does work well.
 
Spend a little more and get a sam 1911 its amazing what you can do with 3000grit a dremel and some polish will do to a budget 1911 I personally been thinking about the compact one

After watching the abuse that Iraqveteran8888 puts it through, Im thinking about getting one too...

Now I just need to find somewhere that has them in stock so I can hold one and see how it fits in my hands first...
