Hi-Point vs. other cheap junk

Am I really worried about resale on a pistol that costs as much as a good truck tire? Use it, enjoy it & pass it on to a son/daughter or niece/nephew when you can. Friend or family; someone will appriecate it when you are ready to trade up.

I see where you're coming from. Saving for a quality brand name gun may take time, but the investment is something you won't regret. I'm the same as you, I buy guns to keep them not sell them. If you're looking at a Kimber why not look at a Norc or a BUL 1911. Even a Springfield, S&W or a used Colt can be had for less than a Kimber and you'd have it sooner.

The praise for Hi-Point especially is something I would be very suspicious about. Their name isn't associated with quality, reliable guns. If it were, there would be a lot more in use by both civilians and LE. The fact that their pistols are straight blowback with a non locking breach is sign of poor design. Their lifetime warranty is nothing rare either. The big brands do the same. Word of mouth about a broken gun and poor service is bad for business. Then again, with a major brand the chances of needing that warranty is slim.

I used Kimber as just an example. I have been eyeing the BUL 1911 in 9mm from Marstar. I love the 1911 pistol. Fell in love with it from watching "Under Siege" with Steven Seagal. Was his side arm through most of that movie, and I just loved it. I've also been looking at the Norinco NP-28 (also at Marstar). Anywho, I've somewhat hijacked the thread so I'll stop now and give it back to the OP

Passing it on is all well and good. Provided it still functions and parts are available to repair it. Everything breaks its a matter of when not if.

Well I have to say I was pretty much decided on buying a Hi Point before posting this thread, but you have now all made me reconsider. Were I to buy a Norinco, what would a good model be, where could i get one at a decent price, are there any major concerns i should be aware of? Also, how is Norinco for getting replacement parts, customer service, warranty, all that? Are there other brands I should consider that doesn't cost anymore? My funds are limited, so basically I've only got one shot at this (no pun intended) for this year and don't wanna get something i'll regret

Norinco produced several models are very good for the money, the 1911, CZ clone as well as sig copy, they are all under $400. pick something you like to learn form there, Now if you ever want a trouble free pistol, order from Armoc and have the gun tuned by Gunnar, it will be about $450 but also warranty by Armco which a lot of people love those tuned 1911. Anyhow if you go further. a Glock, M&P or CZ will be a good choice. CZ line of pistol is my gun of choice, as such the Nornico NZ 85 is a good pick.

Chech the EE on here. There's always someone selling a norinco pistol. Usually a 1911 from what I can see, but decent price ranges, from $100 up to $700 @.@ but if you're looking for factory new, Marstar has a wide selection of norinco pistols, now mind you most are sold out, just give them a call and they should be able to tell you which ones are available still. Canada Ammo had a few norc pistols as well, and Frontier Firearms has a selection as well, and looks like they just got a few 1911's in o_O As for warranty work or parts, I believe the parts that they're clones of works in them, but don't quote me on that one. But if not, then Marstar will most likely have parts for all the models that they sell. Also, keep checking the EE for deals. I've seen "brand name" pistols going for norinco prices, or damned near enough. Anywho, that's enough from me @.@

I just bought a Hi Point in 40 .
First impressions,....top heavy and slippery grips (they are smooth)
Took it to the range and fired 30 rounds not a problem with feed or fire.
A bit big in the grip for me, but I have small hands too.

I got the Hi-Point, two mags and a parts kit too....shipped and to my door in great time.
Made in the USA, great warranty,....a hoot to shoot too.

It's not my first handgun, won't be my last, and maybe will be part of a future trade off, but for the price,.....it is great.
