Hi-Points Have Arrived...

More like $175 USD.

You seem to have a lot of opinions about this gun. I'm just curious where your experience would fall on the following scale:

1. Own a hi-point and have shot hundreds of rounds though it.
2. Shot one a couple times.
3. Held one once.
4. Read about them on the internet.
5. Saw a guy on COPS that had one.

I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid. I would just like you to qualify your statements based on your experience with this particular firearm.

I just order the JCP from Kodiak. Read some reviews from the internet and most comments are shoot great but look bad. What do you want from a hand gun? If it's cheap and shoot great, I will have one. For those who have bought one, cheers!!

I'm not familiar with this Hi-pop pistol, where is it made? why so cheap? is it reliable? thanks.

Hi-Point is american made. It is cheap because it is a simple gun made to be inexpensive.

Due to the fact that it has not been available in Canada, few of us have enough experience with it to comment on it's reliability. Reports online vary of course, but generally seem to indicate it functions well. Now that there are some in the country, hopefully we can get some first hand reports of how it functions.

I believe wikipedia has more information on Hi-Point if you desire.

My goal is not to promote hi-point as something it's not. I recommend you research it and go into it with realistic expectations.

I'd like to see range reports from other shooters. The price looks very attractive. Thank you for the reply.

My opinion is based on:

  1. Numerous negative reviews of this particular pistol, as well as hi-point products in general, that I've read on various American message boards over time.
  2. The fact that no reputable gunmaker makes centerfire pistols out of pot metal
  3. The fact that a decent quality pistol cannot be made cheaply enough to retail for $150, especially if it's made in a first-world country.

If they really had THAT many problems, especially with the slide, the company would be out of business. They also have a lifetime warranty. Have you ever heard of anyone being hurt/killed by an exploding hi-point?

First hand knowledge is really all that counts. Reading about it on the 'net doesn't make you an expert.

No, it's actually a Zamak (a.k.a. cast zinc a.k.a. pot metal) slide. I wouldn't want to stand on the same firing line with somebody shooting this gun, let alone shoot one myself.

Finally, a gun that makes Norinco look like a quality piece in comparison (I bet pontcanna is creaming his pants from excitement :D). For only $249, you can arm yourself with a unreliable fugly POS just like an up-and-coming Detroit crack dealer who can't quite afford a Glock Fohtay yet. Goes well with gold teefs and puffy jackets!

Everyone listen to this guy. I'm sure he knows EXACTLY what he's talking about, considering his extensive experience and testing with Hi-Point pistols.

I think it's funny that most of you would roll over your mother to buy a pinko-commie copycat Norc, but when something American made comes in that is JUST AS UGLY, and JUST AS "UNRELIABLE", you smash it all to hell.

I have NEVER heard of someone carrying a Norc pistol to preserve their own life, but if you actually look on some of the forums where people have first hand knowledge and experience with them, they are actually quite liked and some are even CARRIED - Daily, I might add. I have heard of some people who use them as either nightstand or truck guns.

But I'm sure they know nothing.
