Just picked myself a Hi-Power clone by FEG on the EE.
Was wondering if Browning hi-power mags will fit or if the FEG uses proprietary mags.
Either which way, some one want to point me in a direction on where I can purchase some extra mags through a site sponsor? haven't had any luck randomly browsing their sites as of yet. The gun came with 2 but I work on the theory that you can never have enough mags.
Thanks

Browning mags will fit. Not sure about sourcing BHP mags in Canada..... you could try Marstar, I think they carry some BHP stuff. I've bought most of my HP parts from Brownell's including 10 rd MecGar mags for my BHP .40 (I assume they'd have 9mm as well). Just make sure you are ordering 10 rounder's and not high capacity.....although I'm pretty sure Brownell's order desk would catch that and they'd come up as "not available for shipment to Canada"

Nice buy BTW....from what I've heard the FEG clones are pretty good guns. Is yours FEG marked or is it one of the counterfeits with FN rollmarks?

Not sure on the markings yet, it is currently on route to me. It was the right price so I took a gamble.
I didn't think we could ship mags to Canada. I thought they were a controlled part on the US side. Hmmm, thanks, I'll look into that.

You can't but Brownell's can. They are a licensed exporter and can ship up to $100 worth of firearms parts out of the US without a permit specific to that shipment (actually I've read that the limit is $500 to Canada and $100 to the rest of the world.) I've ordered things like mags, recoil springs, grips etc etc without issues

Good...

Not so good...

Just be aware that the MecGar (and other aftermarket) mags don't have the mousetrap spring so the mags won't drop free unless the MDS has been removed. AFAIK only the OEM Browning mags come with the spring.

^ Fingers crossed but based on the pictures I have of it I got the "good" one.
Thanks guys!

Easiest way to tell is the little oval marking from the cross pin on the right side of the receiver, below the ejection port and behind the barrel / slide stop pin. You should just see the outline in the blueing. You can see it in the top photo I posted.

Weird, all my Mecgars have springs. My stock Browning mag doesn't.

Yes, that is strange. I bought a 2004 era MKIII this summer and the two original OEM Browning marked mags that came with it had the mousetrap springs. I ordered new aftermarket MecGar mags for the gun and..... no springs. What is even more strange is that I'm told MecGar supplies the OEM mags to FN.

As to your original mag not having a spring I'm not sure when they started using them. How old is your BHP?

edit

I posted the question about the mousetrap springs on a US based Hi-Power owners forum I belong to. Some of those guys could write a book on FN and the history of the BHP.

Well, it has arrived and it is definitely one of the "good" FEG's.
Haven't had a chance to get out and shoot it yet but it certainly looks well maintained and looked after.

Since this is a "good" hi power clone, do all hipower grips, accessories, etc fit as they would a true hi power?

Edit: The only thing that throws me off about this gun is mine does not have the hole style hammer that most hi powers seem to have, it's a very traditional looking hammer without the hole/loop thing that most of them seem to have. Does this indicate a modification of some sort or were there multiple hammers used?

Questar brought a few of these last year, I ended up with 2 full guns, and 2 parts guns, they all have the normal style hammer not the commander type. Prices varied from $250 to $350 depending when you bought them and which deal you got. Decent guns for sure.

Nearly bought one back in 1991... regret not doing so. At the time no one knew if they were any good or garbage... in the decades since they have proven to be quite good. Maybe not "FN good", but great value for the money spent! A nice alternative to the expensive real deal.

They don't seem to show up on the EE too often, if you have one count yourself lucky, as Canadians would probably buy up twice as many as showed up for sale. Probably a lot of ex service guys looking to buy one but put off by the price of Inglis or Browning made versions.

FN stopped using the ring hammer on Browning Hi-Powers in the early 70's (1973 I think) Therw were a couple special edition type models that had it after that (Practical comes to mind_ but all the stock 73 series, MKII"s and todays MKIII's have the spur hammer.

I believe most parts will interchange....as to grips...Well.not even Browning Hi-Power grips fit all Browning Hi-Powers!

That was a smokin' hot deal from Questar. I keep looking at their site every once and awhile to see if they've come up with anything else that's interesting but so far....... nada
