Hi Viz sight colour

I'm looking at buying a Hi Viz front sight for my SR9 and have to choose between red or green. Which colour would you folks recommend and why? Which is better in daylight or at night?

Any comments on the quality of Hi Viz?

Keep in mind Hi Viz is a fiber optic sight, not a night sight. They absolutely pop in natural light and are terrific. For indoor use they are okay but naturally not as bright as in outdoor conditions. At night, they provide no illumination whatsoever.
Personally I have them on a few guns. I prefer the red front with the green rears but its a matter of personal preference and what colors your eyes respond to.

while the human eye has the highest sensitivity in green, in the natural world there's WAY more green around you than red, so hi-viz stuff tends to be of a contrasting colour. road work signs, safety vests, etc. from those two, the red is probably better, but orange would probably be even better than that.

that's just going from basics of colour. i have never used them, and don't plan to. on my no-dot guns, i put a dab of bright orange paint on the front blade.

I prefer the red myself, I have used the green during an outdoor match and found it harder to pick out when everything behind the sight is also green.

I like the green for indoor shooting. But putting on a red or orange front would probably make it even better IMHO.

For indoor ranges: pink front /blacked out rear. Seriously.

I use red on my CZ Shadow during the summer and switch to green for the fall. (outdoor range). I find green is better during the cloudy rainy fall season here on the wet coast.

been using green for years ...its just a matter of preference. i think green is better indoor for sure...red...well i imagine outdoor

I thought there were glow in the dark fibers available. Would that not give the best of both worlds?

I had a conversation with a shooter at my last IDPA match, and he explicitly told me that his Fiber Optic Sights were glow in the dark...

I've got a HiViz green on my S&W 625 and really like it. Much easier to find with my almost 57 eyes. Haven't tried them indoods yet.

Plain fiber optic sights do not provide any illumination in the dark at all. There are some manufacturers that offer a combination of fiber optic and night sights (TruGlo TFO) but sights like HiViz are simply fiber optic. Unless u shoot a lot in the dark or your club hasnt paid the electric bill the regular HiViz work just dandy.

TruGlo TFO is fiber + tritium.

So they are reasonably good day or night.

At my club we consistently have "Dark" or Low Light Stages on the indoor range during IDPA Matches. They are a lot of fun, and Glow in the dark sights are nice to have,, but if you don't have a need, then yes there is no real point to it...
