Hical 12.5" Chinese barrel for 870??

Thanks for the review. When I buy a Chinese gun, I'm really not that worried about how it looks, if it functions well, that's what I'm paying for. I also fully expect that a polishing and smoothing on internals and some external spots may be needed.

Glad you got your's blued the way you like. Any pics of the bluing before you worked on it?

Didn't take any pics prior to re-blueing... it was pretty bad though. Anyone not able to reblue and expecting a new, un-damaged barrel would have been very unhappy and probably would have returned it.

was it actually blued, or was it more of a blackish painty finish, or parked? I find those finishes do not hold up at all, and would likely scratch very easily.

I got one from CanAm and it has a parked looking finish that is very fragile. Scratches and wears easily, but functions fine.

yeah i though so, not really something to get your panties in a bunch over.

No.. but take a step back for a second and think... you just bought something new so what should your expectations be? Should you expect your purchase to look like something damaged and from a used flea market? No. Should you expect it to be in new condtion without any damage regardless of what finish is on it? Yes. If you are selling something with the expectation that it is new and are shipping it otherwise, then you should advertise it as such. Anything other then that is false advertisement. I'm not saying that after reworking it I am unhappy, but lets be clear here... what I purchased was a new barrel and what was shipped to me was not in new condition and was damaged.

should have sent it back then if it was that bad.

From what I have read about other short barrels that are available and their fit/function issues, the main thing for me was that it fit/functioned properly. And it did. Even though you shouldn't have to live with a scratched barrel that is new, I can, given the importance of the fit/funtionality.

For what it is though $169 seems a little much. I think they should be more around the $125 range. But supply and demand, we can't cut barrels down that short so you gotta buy what we can.

For the price you paid you got a barrel with excellant fit and function. Would i be a little put out? probably. That being said the other barrel in that price range has serious fit and function issues. I would take the one that works and is ugly over the pretty one that never works (thankfully my wife has the same philosophy).
