Hickok45 reviews Ruger No.1 in .450 Bushmaster

Yup. POS rifles.
Exhibition grade walnut and classic design.
My only regret is I never bought every Number 1 and Number 3 that crossed my path back when they sold for 5-600 dollars in the 1980's.
Right now I've got upwards of 10 but always room for one more.

Actually No.1's come in enough configurations and chamberings as to be almost entirely different rifles other than the basic action... I really should not say that I "love" No.1's, because there are some configurations that I actually dislike quite a bit... the "V" for example as well as the 26" "B's" and the nose heavy "H's"... really, the bulk of my interest is in the "A" and "RSI" versions along with the lighter barreled "S" versions. I prefer the Alexander Henry forend to the beavertail forend, and those that are shorter overall and of lighter weight, with trim dimensions that render them very wieldy and sprite.

Agree totally with that.
The 1A and RSI and the 1S are where I tend to go.
The 1B however fits the 220 Swift and 22-250 perfectly.
Still on the hunt for an early 1H in 375 just because I regret selling the ones I've parted with.

Maybe at one time, but the wood on recent ( last couple of decades) No. 1's has been dead plain. My Winchester 94 has better figure in the wood than a lot of the No. 1's I've seen. If Ruger would go back to using decent wood then maybe I could understand the asking price.

Nice rifles - but the price does have the effect of stopping and doing a double take... Used would be fine at a better price... There's also the Winchester 1885 that the Ruger can be compared to. Odd that we don't see more of them in canuck-ville.

I now have 1 #1 left in 22 hornet. I’ve sold quite a few but all when you would get ~$1000. #3s are selling for high bucks as well. 4#3s and 3 Browning 78s. The 78 are a good price compared. Pay to play, but some can’t play anymore.

I have many single shots. They are a pleasure to hunt with, easy to carry. The first shot is one that counts. Even with a bolt, if I had to shoot twice I never was so short of time it mattered that much.

Same here, I love my single shots, I have 2 and like them better than my bolt or semi auto!! I never had a problem to do a flowing shot and it is actually quite quick if you know what you are doing!!
But they are not for everyone and that’s ok it leaves more for us!

The ones baffled by single shot rifles are the ones who, due to their experiences, are preoccupied with follow-up shots...

Now that ruger is making synthetic stocks for m77 scouts I wonder if they have the ability to produce a stainless synthetic model. I’d be the first and potentially only one in line.

I always though I would hunt any rifle regardless of how good it looked and then bought a beautiful no 1 and could not bring myself to do it.

I meant a S/S No 1, just worded badly.

I’ve been on a weird trip since discovering the Franzoj carbon synthetic kipplauf I guess.

For those concerned about price, google some euro tilting block single shots for a reality check. The No 1 is a working man’s single shot

Who just buys a single shot rifle anyway? Seems counterintuitive to me. A single shot? At the range on a slow day maybe...

Exactly.

Painfull to watch, mentions that it is available in semi auto but doesn't think any are reliable yet even though that is how this cartridge came to be in the first place. Then on to how ruger figured out how to eject a rebated rim as if it is something special, yet the parent case for the 450 is the 284 win with the same rebated rim that has been ejected reliably from rifles for decades.

Federal blue box is not premium ammo as claimed

The ruger boys know better though.
