Hides?

Just wondering what most people do with their deer hides? I got my first this fall, was thinking it would be kind of cool to have something made out of it?

I have see a gun rack made out of the lower legs and hooves of a deer that looked awesome, my uncles to be exact.

I am sure your wife could make something cool with a sewing machine.

I've made a few drums from the rawhide. The kids tend to enjoy that.

I donate mine to the local wildlife federation who sell the hides and use the funds for habitat protection and enhancement.

I had a fringed rifle scabard made from one of mine.Fitted for a lever action. I tanned the hide with a kit I bought from S.I.R.(now Cabella's). Had a local shoe repair guy sew it up for me. Made couple knife sheaths out of the leftovers. Still have some scraps around.
