Does anyone have experience of Higginson's 47SL surplus powder? The burn rate is listed as slightly slower than H414 which should make it a good powder for 30.06. Anyone used it or would care to comment?

Found it to be very accurate but to slow for the 3006. If you don`t care about max velocity will work well.

Sorry but I don't agree. The 47SL is very, very close to the same burn rate as the 4350 powders which are arguably the best possible powders for the 30-06. As a side note the best velocities I have ever gotten with the 30-06 - 180 grain BT @ 2840 fps out of a 22" barrel - are using a 180 grain bullet over a case full of Reloder 22 which is a lot slower than W760/H414 and 47SL

I have had the same experience as "Boo with 47SL [lot 10]Great 30-06 powder, with both 165 and 180 grain bullets. One of the most accurate loads I shoot out of my 30-06 M721 is 47SL and the Hornady 165FB. I have graphed it at 2910FPS, so it is definitely not too slow for this application. However, some years ago Higginson also marketed a lot of 47SL [lot 131] it was more like 785 Winchester and was a bit slow until you got to the 200 grain bullet. I still have a good quantity of lot 10, and probably 5 lbs of lot 131.Regards, Eagleye
