You've prob. heard this question alot, but I was wondering if high-cap mags on semi-autos are restricted or prohib? I was wondering about 20 and 30rnd. mags for mini-30's. I checked on the cfc website but there is no information regarding high-cap mags, and I e-mailed them about 3 weeks ago with no response still (not surprised.....) so I was wondering if you could help me out?
Thanks for any info..........

Anything that fires from a semi-automatic action and uses a centerfire round, must use a magazine limited to 5 rounds. This is for long guns. Handguns can only use magazine limited to 10 rounds. High capacity mags are prohibited weapons by themselves. Eventhough they are usless without their intended firearms.
So, a semi auto shotgun, say the Rem 1187, can only have a magazine capacity of 5 rounds. Whereas the Rem 870 pump can have an unlimited ammount of rounds. Depending if you are hunting or not. In this case, you may have only 3 rounds in your gun. Both guns use the same ammo, different actions.
I hops this clears up the perfectly logical magazine capacity issue for you.
YMMV,
Hoddie.

A magazine designed or manufactured for a semi-automatic centerfire rifle is limited to 5 rounds, except for a certain few specifically exempted.

The Mini-30 is limited to 5 round mags. AFAIK, the factory never supplied any other capacity. There are aftermarket 20 and 30 round Mini-30 mags on the market, but of course they have to be permanently modified to five rounds for import to Canada.

Granted, not actually on the CFC website, but directly linked to from there...

Mags for commonly-available in Canada handguns are limited to 10 rds.

Mags for semi-auto centre-fire rifles limited to 5 rds.

Mags for semi-auto rim-fire rifles not limited.

Yep. Look out your window. See that same car that's been parked there for the last three weeks? Now also, how long has that telephone repair guy gonna work on that pole anyway?

Just kidding..... maybe.

Homesick Alien speaks the truth.

Or you can pin them to only hold 5 rounds. Easiest (and acceptable) way to do it is to drill the mag body and rivet it. Do it quickly and the Gov't. black ops guys won't come crashing through your roof to arrest you for prohibited mags.

There NOT high capacity , they are standard capacity . We have neutered mags , not only are you not allowed to use prohibited mags , just being in your posession is enough to go to the slammer .

Truer words have never been spoken.

I'd never want to test that. But, seeing as how punks who get caught with illegal handguns in their cars are walking away with "zero" jail time, I'd be very surprised if anyone ever went to jail for a "standard" magazine :)

hehe... again though, I'd never want to test that - you'd definitely lose your PAL and collection :D

I've got a few pinned "standard" pistol magazines - I always make sure they won't take more than 10 before I go out with them :) 'cause you never know.

There is a poorly made piece of metal that is crudely exopied to the floorplate of my SKS that falls out everytime I open up the magazine. I know a friend of a friend who tried the rifle without the awkward piece and I was surprised to learn via a third party that the rifle seemed to function just fine without it. I wouldn't recommend this though, it could be dangerous, ask Hedy Fry for the technical details.

There is a company in Canada who makes sound supressors for .410 shotguns and .22 rifles that are totally legal to use by civilians for "pest contol" purposes.

Who and how do I get them?

+1 on that or i call BS.
I think you will find if that were so many of us would all ready know.
Not to pick on the noob, but i,m amazed still how little people know about the firearms act!
how could you not know how many rds your allowed to have in a semi auto.
But on the other hand most cops think the mini 14 is an m14 and a mini 30 is an ak:D

Seeing how the PAL course teaches exactly #### all about the regs and repetitively beats the ACTS and PROVE into your head for 12 hours. Its no wonder new shooters know very little about it. The goal was never to educate shooters on the regs, it was merely step one in the confiscation process.
