Hi everyone,

I'm debating picking up a semi auto non restricted rimfire rifle that has reliable high capacity magazines for executing empty beer cans around camp and picking off the odd grouse while moose hunting in the fall. I already have a beautifully accurate CZ 452 that is currently my goto rimfire.

I'm not expecting a semi to be as accurate as my 452, but I would hope I could get one that would not be too far off. I do like to stretch my CZ rimfires out to 100 M on a regular basis and I'd like a semi that could at least play ball.

With that in mind, what are your thoughts on a 12.5" DAR-22 vs 8" DAR-22 vs something else? And if your recommendation is the DAR-22, what are your thoughts on the sporter vs extreme chamber sizes?

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

If you want crazy hicap, an su-22 with an am180 drum AR conversion is what I have. Fold in half, easy to clean, has a pistol grip stock as an option. The mag I have is 275 rounds but there is smaller drums.
If you have an AR, you can buy the 22 conversion and the mag will work.
Great little backpack gun, less than 5lbs. Takes 26-32 AR-22 magazines.
I had the 8" 10/22 dlask barrel. You'll need hearing protection! It's alot louder than a 16" barrel.
If you're looking for an ultralight small 10/22. The axiom stock and tactical solutions barrel is what I have.
With a trs-25 and loaded it's 3.75lbs!
The su22 folds smaller and is a pound heaver but shoots just as well at 25-50yds.

I had a 10/22 that was accurate...4 out of 5 and a horrible flyer on the 5th. Note to self dont buy a semi auto used. Since accurate 22 and banana clip mag dumps dont go hand in hand...IMO pick one, you cant have both. Perhaps a 22 semi bought new, that you controlled the mag dumps on...but those evil beer cans and the contents in them make one dump magazines.

Why the hi cap thing?? For something different and quality, have a look at a Browning Buckmark Sporter Rifle. Like mine a lot. Not for everyone though.

I had the 8" 10/22 dlask barrel. You'll need hearing protection! It's alot louder than a 16" barrel.

Where would one get around getting this? And how much would he expect to spend?

Get the DAR. Either the 8" or the 12", just depends on your needs. As mentioned the 8" is louder, but with a linear compensator (I run the AGW) it shoots the noise downrange and away from you, so you can shoot it without earplugs again. I have 2 10/22 rifles, one with an 8" and one with a 12". They are both as accurate at 50yds. As far as I can tell, the bullet drop is the same. Out of both barrels I shot a 1/2" group at 50yds. The overall avg of 12 or so groups was 1" while the avg of the best 3 groups was just of 1/2" (0.58").
All in all you can't go wrong with a dlask 10/22 barrel

Thanks EatRedMeat157,

Any thoughts on Dlasks Extreme vs Sporter chamber sizes? I take it from what everyone's saying that shooting the 12.5 without ear protection isn't a problem?

Thanks,
Cal.

I'm just saying spend the extra $40-$60 on a carbon or aluminium barrel. Save the weight and your ears. If dlask made a light barrel, I'd get one but knowing his 8" barrel is almost the weight of the stock barrel, you need to take that into account. However dlask barrels hold their value, so if you don't like it, you can sell it for what you paid for it, minus shipping/taxes. Atleast thats what I did.

the lightest barrel ive found for the 10/22 is the Tactical Solutions one.
light as a feather.

but i prefer my Dlask barrels.

i find the little added weight helps keep me on target.

if you want a blaster for around the fire get the DAR-22 with the 8" bull.
cant go wrong with that one.
its probably the funnest blaster you can get right now.

with the 8"

i run his normal barrels (sporter?) even in my long range 10/22, id stay away from the extreme one they sound hard to get good ammo for.

my little blue i can floss match heads at 25yrds and at 50 im in a toonie.

i wear those little foam ones when shooting my 22's

ive not tried it without but id imagine its a little snappier then the long ones.
i know my ARs the shorter they are the snappier they are.

i know i can shoot my long DAR without ear protection and i dont even notice it.

+3 on the marlin. Its definitely worth a try for the $. You can always do what I did and sell the marlin and put a bunch of money into the 1022 to get it to out shoot the marlin then sell it and buy a marlin again. I'm keeping it this time though lol

It seems you're bent on a 12-14" barrel. Why? The longer the barrel the smaller your group will be. 16" is perfect
The su22 and the tactical solutions are both 16". There aren't many mods for the marlin and keltec, so if you want to build/mod the 10/22 is perfect. If you want an sr22 expect the spend $1000+ on the gun+mods.
A stock 10/22 + upgrades = $600ish. Su-22 = $700ish.
Just being honest about cost!
