High capacity grouse getter and beer can execution tool?

I know revolver ended the thread, but.....

I love my Pietta PPS50.

a tad pricey for beercans and watermelons (379+tx for wood stock & 30rd mag), but fanflippintastic!

Current market, and new rifles only? My fav's in this order:
Marlin 795, Remington 597, Ruger 10/22.

If you have a desire to purchase all manner of aftermarket bit n' pieces go 10/22. Although I no longer tolerate them on the premises, you can doll them up. If good rifle n' hi-cap are all you want, Marlin n' Remington are the way to go.

+1 to that on the pps-50. mine came with a 50 round drum mag and the tacticool stock for 350, ultimate rapid beer can execution machine! more rounds than cans usually.

It seems you're bent on a 12-14" barrel. Why? The longer the barrel the smaller your group will be. 16" is perfect

Hi Little_Airwolf,

I'm leaning towards a shorter barrel as I already have CZ 452's in 16" and a bunch in 22". I figured a shorty would be good fun, and a 12.5" would maintain most of the accuracy of the 16" with the fun factor of a smaller barrel.

With regards to my thoughts on a 10/22, I'm not thinking of picking up a Ruger 10/22, but rather a complete Dlask DAR-22, which, if I'm not mistaken is a considerable step up from a Ruger.(Can someone slap me upside the head if I'm off base here?) Further to that, an evolution stock is something I've had a hankering for for a bit now. Are there evo's that fit the 795, or 597?

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

Dlask is ok, but it isn't the be all and end all of 10/22s. Wanstalls has a bunch of higher end 10/22 clones. $800-$1200 IMO head and shoulders above the DAR.

Nothing at Wanstalls is "head and shoulders" above Dlask's full build... I have had them all and built them all... from full Kidd Supergrades to Full Volquartsen's and full Dlaks builds... the 12.5" is a good barrel choice for an all around plinker and game getter... here are a few Dlask build's;

My Daughter's Dlask 8" Pinky build;

Son's Dlask 12.5" build;

My Pair of Dlask 10" Speed-Tac builds;

Thanks for the reply Hoytcanon. The pics you show of your rifles are pretty much spot on visually with what I had in mind. How much does your son's 12.5" weigh as shown without the bipod? Is the muzzle break a part of the 12.5" or is that on top? Pardon my ignorance, but what's Speed-Tac? I quick google didn't turn up much asides from something about a "Trans######l Anchor System" which I'm pretty sure is not what you're talking about. That barrel looks pretty interesting...Is it a Dlask?

Wow, that's a lot of questions...thanks for everyone's time and expertise.

Thanks,
Cal.

No problem...

It is a heavy, little chunker... 7 pounds even... but the muzzlebrake and heavy scope don't help... you could easily shave a pound off of that... personally we like the heft... but this particular gun was sold recently... The 1" O.D Ross Schuler brakes add 1.5" to the total length... they come out right on 14" OAL.

Look at the shape of the barrel... it "IS" a "Trans######l Anchor System!!!"

Just kidding... Speed-Tac is an informal timed event in a pop-up urban course... these guns are perfect for scoring hits... just amongst buddies...

YES, these are Dlask barrels, but they are a "two-off" custom order that Josef did for me... 10" - .920" stainless with a 2" Ross Schuler 1.25" O.D muzzlebrake for a total of 12"...

Is there a clone you have experience with that you recommend?

Thanks,
Cal.
Save your money and like hoyt did, build your own. Find a receiver you like, or buy a stock ruger. Find the stock you like and order the dlask barrel. You will learn more doing it and possibly bond with the gun. You know already I'm not a fan of dlask barrels but his receiver is ok. There are more choices at Questar or wanstalls.
Good question. I asked hoyt the same thing, how much dies your gun weight?

Thanks Hoytcanon. May I ask how much a two-off cost ya? What are your thoughts on the sporter vs extreme chamberings?

Thanks,
Cal.

+ one more for PPS50, I like mine a lot, only have the 30 shot mag, 50 shot drum on my list.. Great accuracy and overall length of 33" wood stalk and open sights.

When I get around to it, I will weigh them on an accurate scale... personally I don't care about weight... I am more concerned about handling... a little extra weight aids in offhand shooting... I'm a big boy and don't mind lugging around the weight...

OP, if you really want to go light, buy a Pneumatic air pistol for use when moose hunting... our Benji HB-20's have killed hundreds of grouse and hares... we have red-dot's mounted and carry them in bandolier holsters... we bowhunt for moose, so they are quieter... sure as heck are NOT rapid fire though...

I'll let you sort out the "cost" with Joe...

For plinking and hunting, you don't need extreme accuracy... but you do want extreme function... so get the sporter chamber (IMO).

The colored EVO builds are tuned for CCI SV's... and the BLK/SS builds are tuned for Mini-Mags...

My 10-22 is quite accurate. I wish I bought 10 of these barrels when they were available. ER Shaw 11.5".

With that in mind, what are your thoughts on a 12.5" DAR-22 vs 8" DAR-22 vs something else?

If you plan on hunting with it, check your regs. I believe that BC doesn't allow hunting with a barrel shorter than 12".

Nonsense. Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy.

Cz 512 crazy accurate . Trigger pull is a little stiff . Nothing a bit of polishing cant take care of . Eats almost any ammo without any issues.
