High dollar build

Hey guys I've been in the thoughts process for a while now about doing a high dollar build the rifle will be used for both target and hunting pretty set on going with 300 win and overall weight isn't much of an issue. Just wondering what everyone else is running or what they've had experiences with good or bad any input would be much appreciated as well as any suggestions
 
Was looking into doing it in a pierce action jae stock barrel not sure about yet and probably leupold base rings and scope, all over a little time piecing it all together of course
 
I was at Silverdale and one of the guys at the 100 / 200 yard range pulled out his braked 300 WM with fluted barrel. It was all black Remington 700 in a MDT Tac21 chassis. It looked awesome.

Your first premise is wrong. You are going to have a " high dollar" compromise. Lots of money and not the best at either. Pick one use or the other and build accordingly.

I bought some Remington 40x repeater 223/308 rifles and McMillan M40 stocks with Winchester trigger guards as a start
 
By "target shooting" do you mean competitive or weekend warrior? If its a weekend warrior target/hunting rig, I would forego the BS of having to gather parts and get a smith to put it together for the easy alternative and just get a TRG 42 in .300 Win Mag and be done with it. The TRG platform IMO is the best combination of parts and performance available on the market today. I have owned many TRGs and everyone is a shooter, I have yet to hear of anyone that has owned a TRG that won't shoot. Resale value will command a higher price than a custom as well. A very close second would be a PGW.

If you are determined to gather parts and do a build, the Pierce is a great action to get it started on. The stock is largely a personal preference, I prefer the Mcmillan A5 for fit and ergonomics but also use the AICS and XLR chassis. Any well known barrel maker will be able to offer a top quality barrel that will suit your needs.

Weekend warrior for targets not much into competing, and I like the idea of a custom I like having something different that most others do not i really like the TRGS I just want something custom
 
Norm, I can build a super expensive high end gun that will do a mediocre job at both! Just give me money and we will get going, I will build anything asked, just don't ask for my opinion because I will give it no matter what you want to hear!
 
If your looking for a true, one off, one of a kind, take a look at the rifle GunBoy has listed in the EE, its a .260 Rem in an AICS 2.0 stock. I bought the .308 he had listed in the EE, and I'll tell you it's truly a one of a kind, using a custom 1.5" stainless 8 flute barrel in a Rem 722 action. This thing is a tack driver! I wish I could afford the .260 Rem!!! I'd buy it in a heart beat! This guy did a bang up job on my .308!

Can make it anything you want... and there in lies the key.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Custom should mean meeting the goals of the customer - SPECIFIC GOALS. Budget plays a role but that is not my focus initially. "Enough" budget to get the job done is what we work towards

Is your focus more on appearance where a large chunk of budget goes into embellishments? Or are you looking for reaching performance goals? Or a bit of both?

Anything you can dream up has already been done and happy to set it up the way you want. So the best thing to do is put down a list of the most important things this rifle should have or do for you.

Appearance is part of it spending enough money you're going to want something nice looking, the original post may have confused some about wanting both a target and hunting rifle I'm not looking to build a 30 pound bench rest unit that'll shoot a thousand all day nor am I looking to build a super light bush wacking hunting rifle I'm aiming for a nice custom in between the two that ill be able to use either way
 
I agree with Stevebot-7 Rick at ATRS has built 2 customs for me and the quality and knowledge that comes out of that shop is second to none in my opinion phone Rick he is more than willing to help put together whatever you want
 
You might consider using a barrel bedding block. They say repeaters are not as inherently accurate as single shots because there is metal in the mag feed area on a single shot which makes them stronger. Using a barrel bedding block takes that out of play and allows you to use a repeater and still have single shot stiffness, plus it reduces the effect of barrel wip allowing for a longer barrel.
