High End 22lr. suggestions/comments

Buy a 64 series annie...it is for hunting after all. Much nicer than a CZ of any pedigree. I own a few CZs and although I feel they are the best bang for the buck...Annies are worth every penny extra.

Prophet River has a used Anschutz 1415-1416 for $1200, which is probably as close as you're going to get to "high end" without multiplying that number.

Brno Model 1 or 2 or 5E
Winchester Model 75 Sporter
Winchester Model 52 Sporter (Browning 52 Sporter is a bargain IMHO)
Walther KKJ
Anschutz
and on up in price. First three live at my house.
I had a first generation T-bolt, but never warmed up to it.

This rifle will only punch paper when sighting in, other than that it will be used as hunting, shooting spinners at 80 yards off my back porch.
Wow guys I appreciate all the input, also if I ever buy a Anschutz it would have to be a 54 action. Reason is if I would buy the 64 and really lIke it I know I would have to get the 54 as well. That's just me. ...

I had a CZ 455 Varmint , here is what I disliked. Action feels like pulling a canoe over gravel, the bolt lift angle for a rifle in this day and age is way too high, while the bluing and wood work is nice, the overall finnish on the steel was not the best, as in sharp corners. Now our neighbor has a few 452 and they are well broke in so the action is smooth but his CZ all needed a bedding job to get them accurate. I sold my 455 after only half a year it shot about 3/4 inch at 50 yds. never tried match ammo tho. I mostly shoot cci ammo in any configuration.

No one should complain about 3/4" groups with a CZ without using at least entry level match ammo, which CCI isn't. I would suggest that your neighbour's 452's were bedded to make already accurate rifles even better (and because if you know how to do bed a rifle, it's not difficult to do).

Consider a new 64 action Anschutz if you're still blinkered about CZ. The heavy barrel Anschutz 64 MPR is a very accurate target rifle.

I've had a few T Bolts and they all have been stellar.

This is my current setup, Shot Show 2015 special with DuraTouch faux carbon fiber stock.
Leupold VXII 1-4x20mm.

The pull back action of the T Bolt has been around since the 60's. So to address the OP's question on gimmicky...not to worry. A super solid reliable action.

There is still an Anschütz made Weatherby MK XXII on EE, has the 64 barreled action. They're great looking rifles and definitely something to pass on to the next generation.

Might be more than you are wanting to spend, but it shoots a little better than a Savage. Not for sale.

The Lilja fan's haven't come to the table yet what is up with that?

When did Lilja start making rifles?

Ok lets talk High end rifles :)

Walther KKM: Re-barrel with Lilja
Sako Quad Range: Re-barrel with Lilja
Remington 40X" Re-barrel with Lilja
Cooper 57M: Re-barrel with Lilja
Anschütz 1710: Re-barrel with Lilja
Winchester 52E Target: Re-barrel with Lilja
BLEIKER Challenger Auflage: Re-barrel with Lilja
Turbo Action build with Lilja barrel

:jerkit:

These are high end rifles that will be stunningly fantastic with a Lilja barrel. Oh, you're actually just looking for a mid-grade of the shelf production rifle..... :nest:

You are right on the midrange thing, what I don't want is to buy a rifle then spend $$$ on making it shoot. I believe that any rifle $500+ should shoot 3/4 inch at 50 yds with midrange ammo out of the box.
But go to any rimfire forum it seems that everyone suggests a CZ. CZs are $550+ then when you buy it and you aren't happy the same people will say: Hey spend 25 on a trigger kit then spend 10$ and lots of time to bed it, then finally spend a few 100 more for a better barrel, then you will love yer CZ.
Well for that money, headache and uncertainty you could be shooting a mid to top range rifle out of the box. If people want to, or have the time to tinker, go for it, not everybody wants to do that tho.
The savage rimfires in my area that I have seen have all out shot the CZs out of the box. Please note this is a hunting/plinking thing we do, not paper punching.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm currently leaning toward a synthetic t-bolt or the Finnfire 2. The lovely 54 anschutz is just out of this farmers price range.

PS I hate the auto spell check/correct thin that my android does. If my words are off I blame my droid

Really?

One need not be a farmer nor a veterinary surgeon to recognize hose manure?

Bite the bullet now rather than buying four or five others.
The Anschutz 1710 or 1712 will make you a believer in 100 yard gopher kills.

If the Lord made something better than an Anschutz 54 he kept it for himself.

Agreed! You are right on, maybe I don't need it by next year's gopher season, if I can wait an extra 6 to 12 months I just might be able to buy one. If I will not have lost my mind (or more of it) till then.
Now where can I find some patience... lots of patience

For me, if its an anschutz it has to be a 54. I'm thick skulled that was or whatever you want to call it.

I've used my 54 action 1827 in the gopher patch and have connected on gophers on the first shot very frequently at 100yds plus. The last time out I was giggling at how absurdly easy it was to connect with the first round at distances usually reserved for the .17hmr.
Something very satisfying about holding 6" over and 4" into the wind and watching gophers topple in your scope!
