I see that one forum sponsor got a few Korth revolvers in recently. The high end Classic Sport high polish blued finish was 7395 (sold quickly) but the National Standard 6" is still available as I write this for $3495. Another sponsor has 6" Manhurin MR 73's expected shortly and says they will be $2995. ( BTW This same store currently has 4.25" MR88's for $1525). Between the National Standard and the MR 73 which would you choose? Why?

Not a lot of user feedback on the National Standard yet, whereas the MR73 is time tested and considered by many to be one of the finest revolvers made.

That said, you probably can't go wrong with the Korth. It will still be a phenomenal revolver and made incredibly well too. Although I really like the heritage of the MR73, If I had to choose, I'd get the Korth only because I think the Manurhin is homely. Not a totally valid criteria imo, but I do base some of my gun purchases on aesthetics.

I'll add that it probably also depends on what your objective is. If I just wanted a shooter, they would both be very nice and I'd go for the Korth. If I wanted a collector, I'd get the Manurhin.

Probably as a little bit of a shooter and partly "just to have".

I think I'd lean towards the MR 73. I'm not a fan of the dull, flat black finish on the Korth. The polished blue on that Classic Sport Korth is gorgeous but $7400+ 15% HST is :sok2

Yes those Korth Classics are pricey.

Can't go wrong with the Manurhin. You could never shoot it loose and it has an interesting heritage - good conversation piece.

Well, we'll see how it works out when the Manurhins arrive. I'm not much for pre-ordering....more of an impulse buyer. That, and the fact I just bought a new (to me) boat for racing next season. The "neat new gun" budget may have to be pared back a little to allow for the "upgrades to make the boat faster" budget. ;) Sails can make guns look cheap

the HST hasn't been around for a few years now; it's 7% PST and then 5% GST. The actual blue Korth is gorgeous, if I could afford one, I would be shooting it often.

Not sure I understand your comment. I am in New Brunswick. The HST just went to 15% here last summer. When I order online I get charged the 15%.

15% or 7% who cares. This type of price is just like buying Ferrari or Lambo and driving it in stop and go traffic all the time, at the same speed as dodges neons or fords tempoes. To fork out that much of money for a handgun is only justified if you live in wild west where you carrying this korth on you all the time and your life depending on it. Otherwise its just waste.

I have to disagree with you on that concept. Sometimes it's nice to have nice things just for the pleasure of having them.

I'd also have to disagree with gewehr on that one. I'm with you sailor, nice things have a value to those that appreciate them that is not quantifiable by those who only look at the 'cost'. While a neon or a tempo will indeed get me from point a to point b (maybe), the satisfaction I derive from my Porsche is worth more to me than the 'dollar value' some might place on it. The grin factor is huge. The same can be said for firearms. I like having Pythons and those classic, wonderful S&W. I like having Sig Sauers, when a Norinco will still toss brass as far. I can't say how much I enjoy drinking a very fine, expensive single malt (like the Laphroaig 25 year old in my glass at the moment), when a two-six of CC will still get me drunk, and sick.

There is a fine quote by Oscar Wilde on the subject that I always thought was accurate: a cynic is 'a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.' I often see that those who are most 'cynical' about pricey things, are most often those who can't afford them. It makes me wonder if they really believe what they are saying, or are perhaps just jealous of those who can afford them?

Another fine saying a friend of mine told me (as a boat owner), was that boats were 'holes in the water you poured money into'. I took that seriously, and have tried to avoid one more expensive passion. I'll stick to my Porsche! But I sure do appreciate a fine boat....or plane.....

Regarding the Korth/Manhurin quandary....get one of each! Decide which you like better, and end up keeping them both anyway! LOL. Cheers. TC

Absolutely, none of my firearms (and none are so nice as the Korth lol) are "carried on me as iff my life depends on it". But I do enjoy shooting them all, along with the small, but important, personal pleasure of just owning something I want/like to own.

I have a Freedom Arms M83 454 it is a h3llof nice gun. There is one here on EE for $2500 I think with a scope. The scope/mount is worth at least $300 maybe up to $500. I have a different scope/mount on mine. I actually have a spare scope mount I could sell, ended up with two. Mine is the Premier but the field grade should be good as well. It's just polishing as far as I know.

Just to update....Apparently the retailer misunderstood some of the paperwork they got from Manhurin. The MR 73's are not en route and it looks now like they won't arrive until sometime next spring.
