Are these two brands comparable at the high end of their offerings?

For example does;

SII Big Sky compare to Vortex Viper
SIII compare to Viper PST
any Sightron compare to Vortex Razor

Important to me would be;

glass and coating quality
box test repeatability
design, implementation, quality, of the "innards"
eye relief

The questions and answers are meant to be somewhat theoretical. Take into account the usage patterns can vary a lot, depending on power chosen.
For example:
(a) I am not a competitive benchrest shooter or a military sniper - but I might want a scope semi capable of doing parts of both of these along with dropping a long range coyote.
(b) For close in stuff you might choose a different gun, caliber, and optic configuration - but still be concerned with answers to the questions above
(c) I would personally rate the best German and Japanese glass and coatings as equal. I don't think Vortex or Sightron come with the absolute best, just plenty good enough for me?

And yes, I would prefer a Nightforce or Schmidt & Bender, but the lottery hasn't come in yet.

Thats the first time I have seen 'high end' and 'Vortex' in the same sentence
In a way, I know what you mean. f:P:

however,

There are tons of guys swearing by Vortex these days. They have a reputation for "value" pricing and list a Viper PST for $1179. Razors are higher.

Similarly, there are tons of guys swearing by Sightron these days. They have a reputation for "value" pricing and list a SIII SS for $1159.

For essentially the same price, which is better? Go into as much scientific and engineering detail as possible to explain your reasoning.

Drop ' mysticprecision' a line ( cgn member ) he will be able to sway you in the right direction ( even if he is a sightron 'rep' ) ;)

As long as it's a Viper or Razor these optic's are great but they are a fairly new company so there reputation is not out there yet. Buy either and you won't be disappointed. Although jennis is just mad because he used his Vortex on a 223 rifle while he was shooting his 556 surplus ammo :p

The flaw in the comparisons is that the Razor is in a totally different class than the Viper or Sightron at nearly double the price.

Question:
Does any Sightron scope compare favorably with a Vortex Razor?

Answer:
I don't know, but, seeing the Razors at double the price, I would not expect them to.
