High end

MOA currently. Sighted at 200m and typically a 2in group.

When you spend $2000 for a Cooper, you can expect 1/2moa if your shooting skills are up to it.In fact their accuracy guarantee is three shots into 1/2" at 100 yards.

I agree completely. The Sako, Kimber, etc are at best middle ground production rifles. That is not to say they are not nice but they are definitely not "High End"

I guess I'm so low class that I don't even know what High Class is!!!

And I'll prolly never own a rifle more classy than those middle ground production rifles.

But I'm okay with that. :)

The Kimber super america's are beautifull rifles. Fit and finish are superb and the wood can be stunning. They're light, fairly accurate and have the best factory trigger IMHO.

The Cooper western classic looks pretty darn nice too! I haven't seen one personally, but the craftsmanship in that rifle will be top notch. My coopers are heavier than my kimbers, and I don't like the trigger as much but right now there is a Cooper in my truck. I've taken one mulie and one coyote with my excaliber 6.5-06 in the last 3 days:)

Dakota would be my next choice and then the mauser 98. Customs can be a better way to go, you get everything to your spec. You decide how crazy to go on wood, pick your action (I like old Brno's for custom hunting rifles) pick your barrel, cartridge, LOP, everything is just the way you want it. Probably $2000-$50 000 what ever makes your bum hum!

Some will,some won't,in any case,they don't guarantee the accuracy.

I was just having fun. I am not one of the blind " my 200 dollar rifle shoots as good as a 2000 dollar one, why should I spend any more." kind of people. There is a huge difference in craftsmanship when it comes to paying more. I have never handled a Dakota or Cooper, but I imagine that the fit and finish is immaculate, and the bolt is slick and solid.

One day...

DON'T DO IT!!! I have one Cooper and now I am ruined as far as buying a regular production rifle. I always end up thinking "Nope not as nice as a Cooper" :HR: when looking at anything else.

Tell me about it,I bought one Cooper Jackson Hunter, and now I have four Jackson Hunters, with a Model 54 Phoenix in 260 on order.

H.S. Precision. It will stretch your budget a little but they make left handed bolt models. Guaranteed to shot 1/2 moa at 100 yards ( three shot group ). I have one and the fit and finish is what you would expect from a rifle in this price range. There are lots of great rifles at this price point but H.S. should make your short list. Good luck.

Just stay away from snobby moose and you'll be fine...:D

I always leave the really pedigreed & registered moose for the guys with the $10,000 rifles. It's only fair.

HS should not make your short list,
for the same price you can have a rifle built to your spec.
IMHO their fit and finish ends with making sure all the edges are nice and sharp.

Even though I am picky when it comes to rifles I have to admit that there are quite a few nice choises out there ,even for lefties.
But if I ever decide to blow another 3000.00 on a rifle it's gonna have pretty wood.
For plastic and stainless I'll get a Tikka or wait for Browning to make a stainless LH x bolt.

abolt1:
That last sentance should have read
I could not imagine spending 3000.00 on a synthetic/stainless rifle again.
Well maybe a NULA.....maybe.

When the original poster started with "high end", that is what most came up with, a high end gun should have great craftmanship and beautiful wood, it should be a joy to look at. Most folks wouldn't gaze for long at a Tikka T-3 super soaker hanging on their wall.

Interesting comments. Does anybody have a decent selection of other than standard production rifles? The HS Precision is worth a looksee and I have been to the Cooper site before. I am a little surprised none of the Euro stuff came up like Drilling and Merkel etc. Not looking for a double rifle though and it seems a lot of the Euro stuff is like that. Single barrel bolt action hopefully in a leftie. Still I look at my CZ527 and compared to the Ruger its a work of art.
Thanks for the opinions and insights gentlemen. Just beginning my research. Will have to see where this road takes me. Theres always Mr Martini to cook something up if I want to part with some serious coin.
Thanks. Keep the thoughts coming. Off searching now.

You mean like in my first post in this thread (#8)?

For that price you might as well build. Get exactly what you want rather than settling. All factory rifles are compromise rifles to serious riflemen.

Thinking my request is a little too vague. "High End" is pretty broad spectrum. However I am learning this as I go-uncharted waters. Yes I did look at the Merkel etc but it looks like what I actually am asking for is a "middle ground" rifle that will guarantee accuracy to, say 1/2in @ 100yds. So it looks like it is coming down to Cooper, Sauer, or HS Precision. HS is looking to be the most promising at this point and Kimber does not do Lefties. Wondering how the CZ550 fits into this although they do not guarantee a particular accuracy.
Keep it coming guys. Im working thru this and the suggestions are helping a lot.
