So with a new barrel from NorthShore coming in the soon to be near future, I'm on the look out for some ammo. 9D says no reloading until we get a new place in January so it has to be factory.

I'm well aware about the products like FGMM or the Hornady and Lapua offerings, but what else is there out there that would class between "match" ammo and the surplus stuff which I'm not overly keen on running thru a custom tube.

Barrel is a 1:10 twist so something in the heavier range would be excellent... any ideas?

RUAG has been in use at Bisley for the past few years. I don't know is it is available in Canada, but again it won't be cheap. For the price of about 10 boxes of any match ammo ( a measly 200 rounds) you can set yourself up with a nice reloading kit.

Agreed, and it's more of an issue of I have nowhere to reload in this place, and my wife doesn't want gunpower / other items in the kitchen, living room, bedroom etc.
 
I use federal power shok 180gr in my 700 sps varmint and get Better than 1/2 MOA at 100m and sub MOA groups out to 300m. Pretty good for 22$ a box at Canadian Tire.

I was on the fence about this stuff... seen it at a good price a couple different places.

Does the Federal brass hold up well to reload at a (much later) date?

I have had a couple loose primer pockets with Federal brass but that is over a couple hundred cases. I've only reloaded it 3-4 times but it's still in great shape and ready for more.

Just store the once fired brass in a cool, dry place and it will be good to reload decades later.
 
Frontier has great pricing on cases of FGMM in 168gr and Wolverine has it in 175gr. OOPS guess Frontier sold out of the FGMM (expected so with there price) but they have this

I have seen many people get great groups out of this ammo and read many great reviews but I have never shot any myself. good prices on the 200rd and the 500rd cases under $17 a box

I was on the fence about it too. Especially since I have a 1:12 twist rate which should be able to properly stabilize 180gr. But these have worked better for me than Remington UMC 150gr, MFS 145gr, and shot on par with Winchester 168gr Match. (only shot the winchesters at 100m, I'll bet they handle the longer distances better than federal soft points). Also, they do use blue primer sealer in these. Im not sure if that affects reloading but just a heads up.

I'm looking at the heavier loads because the Shilen being spun on is a 1:10... otherwise I would be thinking about this lighter MFS/AE etc ammo around the 150grn. Honestly the more I think about it, the more paranoid I think I am and should just try it out to facilitate more shooting.

I've got that 10x too. Pretty nice glass for my crappy eyes... very excited to get out there.... Where are you shooting?

Did you check out this stuff from my last post? If you want heavy stuff and your gun likes it I don't think you could find a better price.

sorry, i had a typo. 1:12 twist shouldn't be able to stabalize 180gr projectiles.

I shoot at east elgin sportsman association. They have a 300m range which is why I joined =)

Federal soft points are almost as cheap as remington UMC or MFS aty 22$ a box. well worth giving it a shot (pun intended) lol
