Who would of thought.....yes the Ohio police department have been using High Point for years.

They must be "reliable" you would think if the Law was using them. Their life is on the line.

Looks like the 1st gen 9mm Carbine in 1 of the pics.

wow and they even use the hand guns as well......"I donno about that one"

anyways..just figured I would post this.
I have always had good luck with the carbine......ugly but it runs like a champ and is very accurate....and built like a tank.

Somehow I am skeptical about the "police trade in" status of those guns. I just don't see any taxpayer-funded operation picking something that affordable.

And that scope on the first carbine is hilarious. Sniping Hostage-takers from 500yds with a Hi Point are we? lol

29oz gun, single action only, with a 8-shot magazine. I just can't picture a police agency choosing a gun with such features. Maybe an 8-shot sub-compact for undercovers, but these are not small guns by that standard - a glock 43 weighs under 18oz I think?

It makes perfect scence that they would use them.
The factory is down the street.....they have a life time warranty
the yanks are very patriotic ..they probably get a really affordeble deal.

I know its tuff for us to understand other countires logic, but......

seems they can also buy them on their own and use them. Who would want the pistols..yikes.

I took this off their web site- "Hi Point used to have an LEO division to support the LEO Departments that issued Hi Points to their officers. Now a lot of Departments are issuing the Hi Point PCC as the duty long gun instead of AR's.

well, since they banned our AR rifles... The HP carbine is an option...they seem to think so LOL

This thread from 2006 says Ohio sherrifs officers uses 'em, as well as the Texas Dept. of Prisons, and Tampa PD. That seems more reasonable - law enforcement professionals such as prison/jail stuff. Considering how messed up the For-Profit prison system is in many US states, I could absolutely see the companies that run those prisons giving their officers Hi Points to cut costs.

A quick google suggests Tampa PD uses the Sig P320 now, but obviously that wasn't around in 2006 when that thread was started and I have no idea what they might have been using back then.

wow, had no idea that it was in so much use.
I never did like the look of them, but out of the 5 I owned over the years...I never ever had an issue.

I had 3 of the gen 1 in 9mm, and had one in 45,..sold them,
was my range gun, yote gun, truck gun, trusty gun.

I don't have any first hand experience but for all the slagging that Hi-Points take most people don't seem to have any trouble with them, especially the carbines. The general concensus seems to be that they are reliable and reasonably accurate. In Canada the biggest knock on them seems to be that they don't use legal max capacity mags (i.e. 10 rounds). For people who can't afford a $1300-1400 JR Carbine, Ruger PC9 or FX-9 but want to get into the PCC game they are a pretty attractive alternative.

If I could get a 10rd mag I'd have bought a 9mm Carbine the day they released. They really need to do up an NR 40sw or 45acp, as they have 10 and 9 round magazines.

(Only the 40sw and 45acp handguns are available in Canada, the 9mm Carbine doesn't use the same mags as the 9mm handgun mags [even if it did the 9mm handgun is prohib so they'd be considered rifle mags] and they don't make a 10mm handgun).

The biggest reason Hi-Point survived when other die-cast gun makers did not is the fact that Hi-Point firearms are tough as hell and reliable. They are probably the ugliest guns out there IMO but every time I have used one it worked and worked well. I have too many 9mms to bother with their Carbine but if a NR 10mm version ever makes it up here I'm all over it, 5 round mags or not.

If I could tell my ex-gf she looked great with a straight face I could own one of those no problem

You should see my truck lol my friends call it birth control on wheels
