I just started reloading .308 Win today and I have a problem with high primers. I loaded 40 rounds total in once-fired brass. 20 of those were FC and 20 were S&B. While all primers are a bit high, the S&B rounds are particularly so. I'm using a Lyman ram-prime and Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primers. I've read in several places that the Remington 9 1/2 primers seat a bit above flush and when I measured them, they are in fact taller than the primer pocket in every kind of brass I can find, including new factory brass. I've not seen this problem before. Anybody have any thoughts? High primers are considered to be a safety issue, but they all chamber OK in my Remington 700, even though the bolt face lightly marks the primers. My primer pockets were well cleaned before priming.
