Anybody know anything about these things?

I saw one at a gunshow yesterday in Belleville. It had a very long barrel, had to be 8-9 inches if not more (and, no, I don't have any personal attachments that would allow me to estimate something that long; too bad for me).

It looked in good condition and was offered at $175.00.

I didn't buy the damn thing. Did I miss the sale of the century or are these things somewhat common?

I'm pretty sure it was a pain in the neck single action (you know, ten minutes to reload, etc) but my God, did it look cool!!!! I mean just having it at the range and having other people say "what the heck is that" would have been worth the asking price.

Anyway, do these things come up for sale periodically or did I really screw myself.

yes, they do come up for sale periodically, but that long barrel makes it a little unusual- like the colt "buntline special" from back in the 50's- high standard made a quality gun( HANDLED a few, bought none as the price was typically too high)and typically that quality flowed all the way across the ines- i'd still like to get my hands on a model 10-a semi shotgun, but i like futuristic looking things
 
High Standard made a couple of lines of .22 revolvers - the Sentinel, and the Double Nine, which used the same action, but was "western" styled. Swing out 9 shot cylinders. I suspect that the one you saw was a Double Nine variant. These tend to shoot very well, excellent recreational shooters, usually don't command high prices. $175 would be about market.
 
I've got one with a 6 inch barrel. R-103
Trigger in really heavy in double action, stiff single.
Grips are small. Love the thing. I have Electronic manuals for it (Sears Model 88 version)

Your photo brings back fond memories.
In the late 60s I had one just like yours.
The trigger was not on par with the S&Ws of the period, but the Sentinal was much cheaper; and the price difference bought a lot of .22 ammo back then.
 
The quality of High Standard revolvers was not up to the level of their various semi auto target .22s, of course they're price was also lower.
 
I have a Sentinal exactly like the one in the picture above. It was my dad's before mine and has seen thousands of rounds. The double action pull is BAD but the single action is firm but crisp and the thing shoots ragged holes on paper - very accurate. My dad bought it for grouse hunting in the good ole days - wish we had that back and still talks about how it took all 9 shots and an afternoon to bag one bird that just kept coming back. Sorry for the ramble but the gun is a family heirloom now and it brings back alot of memories - was my first handgun experiance. If you see one for that price buy it and it will be fun for years to come.
