does anyone know much about the high standard supermatic trophy .22? I have a chance to buy one, it is a 1982 but in good shape (he still has the original manual). I am looking to buy a cheap to shoot handgun and a guy from work has one for 500 bucks. he says it is a very accurate competition gun but i dont know much about them. any help would be appreciated.

Do a search for the various high standard models. They share a basic design, but vary in their degree of refinement for target shooting. The lower end ones have fixed sights, mid range ones have adjustable sights with a rear sight bridge above the slide (like the Supermatic Citation) and top end gun is Victor or The Victor, having a slab (rectangular) barrel and a sight rail that runs full length containing both front and rear sight.

The $500 price in my opinion isn't a great deal. I've had a Citation and now have a Victor. The High Standards are great guns and will serve you well, its a matter of working out a fair price for the model he has.

I've seen them go from $275 (nice shooter) to $600 (with the box and spare magazine)

Your best bet is to have a look at the gun... watch for peaning of the chamber, worn out magazine, crack on the frame under the right grip pannel.

Personnaly, I tend to stay away from 'bulleye' gun unless
1) I know the previous owner and know how many rounds went down range.
or 2) It's a stupid good deal...

If you do get it, you might want to print these instructions. Feeding issues are common with the HS, but they are easy to fix with a bit of tweaking of the magazines.

As well, now that I think of it. Find out what year the gun is and where it was made. High Standard goes way back and has been made in at least two original factories, then remade under the same name in the last decade by two different rival companies. Is his the new "High Standard" or the old? The old earned its reputation. The new guns have had problems that are likely not insurmountable, but I'd prefer an old gun.

SO I have a Hampden Conn. pistol Model 106 Military 1,753, ###....would that put it around 1966?

The year is right on...
mine is from 1967 and a fantastic shooter.
it's fair to say, the HS 106 supermatic trophy military is my favourite handgun....

the trigger is pretty nice as well,..I only have two mags,..mine is the Supermatic Citation,...bull barrel.
