High Standard "MILITARY" THE VICTOR Target Pistol found

That is a nice find, hard to find them in the proper box, the best one in the box was a 103 space gun, shipped with 2 barrels, and the gun was about the same condition.
After shooting Hi Standards for years, I could never get on to the grip angle on the S-W 41 and the ones I had where picky on ammo, the best crap ammo eater was a 215 hammerli I shot for a few years, never had one problem or stoppage with that one.
I am old enough I remember when these went for $400.oo good used and 500.oo for mint ones. Last few years , Victors seem to be all hiding.
 
A rival to S&W's model 41. Totally great find and in great shape. HS are accurate too and the bonus of being all steel. Just soaks up recoil.
One caveat: completely avoid all high speed ammo, stingers, all supersonic ammo faster than1100 FPS. High Standards do exceptionally well with "standard" target ammo. Look for Federal Target ammo # 711B, and CCI standard velocity1070 fps target ammo. Heed this sage advice & your HS will last a lifetime!

Supermatic Citation and Trophy were identical except for quality of blue and the gold trigger, mag release and safety on the upscale Trophy. The Citation had a less polished blue finish and nickle trigger, mag release and safety.

Funny High Standard doesn't list them in that order .
Not that it make a differance as they are both premium pistols

Oh well, doesn't matter, I just bought a trophy model 107 military, not near as nice as the victor but this thread got me wanting one to shoot! $500. + tax & shipping. Looking forward to it!
 
The guns are all the same, other than finish, and the rib on the victor, I like the weight of the victor, seems a bit lighter to hold , for me anyway, I have not weighed them, the 4.5 in Victor I had was very nice, but a collector made me a offer I could not turn down.
I like the older slant grip models, my 103 Olympic is what I shoot most.

Thanks Marshall, as I said I chose the Trophy for now, the citation was the same price and looked very good! I was reading a bit on them on line last night, would have loved to have the victor but was above my pay grade. I won't mind shooting this one anyway and that's why I wanted it! I would imagine they are different in their taste for ammo but do you know what most like to shoot? Gonna need another mag too, comes with one.

I should have added that the top models have a adjustable trigger/sear, which the lower grades don't have, also over travel.
I have never shoot formal computation, I used a lot of Federal gold match when I could buy it at 400.oo/case, still have some left, I have also used what ever I had, that was not to hot, I can't hold offhand like I could years ago. I had a Olympic military also, that is a rare gun also, for you that don't know , these are 22 short rapid gun, works good on informal steel challenge.
I do have new mags , but last 3-4 yrs the price has got real bad on these.
Western Gun Parts had some new ones in stock , awhile back. Don't buy triple K unless you don't have any at all, and learn how to tune them, I don't find the factory spec. to work for me, just eyeball them with one that does work, the front lips should just be up to the bullet, not loose, but also no drag.
Those mags (original) ones are tempered steel so very hard, I used a 3/8 th or what ever size thread tap I had extra, and used a dremial fine cutoff wheel and cut a slot about 1/8 in from the top ,on the square end, ground a bit of taper on the top edge and it works great.
Hope you get what I mean. I could dig it out and post a picture( if I can make it work)
The small lip did break off when I was tuning 4 mags for a customer that was having trouble, most where stovepipes, just cut another slot.

Thanks, I read that the mags could need tuning, I didn't receive a confirmation for the trophy so hope nothing went wrong, I think I may have just entered the wrong email, I will find out tomorrow! I also bought a citation 107 military that has a different grip on it,,, looks like a fancy target style grip, might even be home made not sure! Now I need to get a manual for them!

Nothing to add to this thread except my friend had one in the 90's it was a tack driver. Gave me unrealistic expectations of other pistols after that. lol

Same factory grips, same set screw barrel attachment as my sport king. Heads-up; the screw that holds the barrel on may have a tendency to loosen; I got one slightly longer and put a lock washer under it; no better. I now use removable locktite and it stays put.

Also, if you remove the grips for cleaning, there is a very little (and I mean stupid small) spring in the slide release, if you lose it, the slide will lock open on every shot. Brownells does have them; however I found a replacement in the spring plunger on a wrist-watch band; had to cut to length and I am off and shooting again!

The citation I just bought has grips like that, I thought they may be home made,,, I am a newby to these high standards! Nice. Where is the best place to get regular grips as I am a lefty?
Another question, where does the Ruger mark 3 target sit in the target .22 scheme of things?
